Research Scholarships

 

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on Scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration and use in orthopaedic applications

This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage-Projects grant and will provide support for a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research project is to explore the in vitro and in vivo behaviour of scaffolds for skeletal tissue regeneration; applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree and or masters in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Science or Biomedical Engineering; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $26,669pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Chemical and Engineering and Nanotechnology 2010

A scholarship is available on a full‐time basis for a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the project is to prepare carbon nanotubes and then assemble them to form novel devices for high efficiency energy delivery; applicants should have an interest in chemical engineering and nanotechnology research; $27,222pa; up to three years.

NSW Centre for Animal and Plant Biosecurity Scholarship

Bluetongue viruses (BTVs) are prominent internationally and have in recent years assumed a high profile because of unprecedented disease outbreaks; this project aims to advance our knowledge of BTV biology and distribution, create techniques to rapidly quantify insect populations, detect viruses and identify areas of increased risk of disease outbreaks caused by bluetongue viruses;  the successful candidate needs to have completed an undergraduate degree in biomedical or veterinary sciences, have some research experience (Honours or Master’s degree) and good analytical and communication skills; $35,000pa; up to 3 years.

Overseas Scholarships

 

EMBL Australia International PhD Program

Australian life science students can now undertake an Australian PhD in Europe with the support of the EMBL Australia International PhD Program; Up to three students a year can undertake a PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory jointly awarded by the student’s Australian university and the EMBL; applicants must hold, or anticipate receiving before enrolment, a university degree that would formally qualify them to enter a PhD or equivalent programme in the country where the degree was obtained.

Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Program - Supporting Women in Science

The Faculty for the Future Program awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral studies in the physical sciences and related disciplines at top universities abroad; the long-term goal of the Faculty for the Future program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific disciplines; candidates should have applied to, have been admitted to, or be currently enrolled in a university abroad; US $25,000 to US $50,000.
