Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bioinformatics

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a M. Phil
in Bioinformatics; the objective of this research project is to design
and develop novel integrative and interactive methods for simultaneous
multiple sequence alignment and phylogeny reconstruction; applicants
should have an Honours 1 or Master degree in Information Technology;
$26,000pa; up to one year.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Applied Biology

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in
Medicine; the project is to investigate the role of monocyte-derived
micro particles in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases; 

applicants should have an Honours 1 degree in Science or Medical
Science; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or New Zealand citizens; $22,500pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship on Social Transformation and International
Migration

Up to four full-time scholarships commencing 2010 semester 2 are being
offered for research leading to a PhD; the project will re-examine the
theoretical and methodological basis of international migration
research; applicants should have a good honours or masters degree in a
relevant social science, demonstrated research and analytical skills,
interest in international migration, good written and verbal
communication skills, and knowledge of the language, culture and society
of one of the fieldwork areas; $22,500pa; up to three years.

John A Lamberton Research Scholarships

The John A Lamberton Research Scholarship provides financial support for
postgraduate scholars of exceptional ability who are working toward
higher degrees at the University of Sydney; applicants should be either
working in an area emanating from and inspired by the work of Dr John A
Lamberton, or working in the area of science aimed at chemical
understanding of brain function and malfunction; the scholarship value
will be determined by the Scholarship Committee but will reflect the
donor's wish that these be considered prestigious Scholarships.

AINSE 2010 Postgraduate Research Awards (PGRAs)

The Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) are
offering top-up scholarships for doctoral candidates who have a research
project associated with nuclear science, or its applications, and
require access to the unique national facilities at ANSTO; applicants
must hold an Australian Postgraduate Award or equivalent scholarship;
the scholarships provide a supplement stipend of up to $7,500 pa as well
as $5,500pa for costs involved in using the facilities, as well as a
travel and accommodation allowance to enable students to work at Lucas
Heights

Cancer Institute NSW Research Scholar Awards

The Cancer Institute NSW is pleased to announce funding for Research
Scholars Awards; these awards provide funding opportunities to develop
and support outstanding students enrolled in a higher degree who have
the potential to develop highly significant careers in cancer research;
applicants must have an NHMRC scholarship, University scholarship or
other primary scholarship; valued at a total of $25,000 per annum, for
up to three years, to commence in October 2010; please note that only
$5,000 will be paid as a top-up scholarship directly to the award
holder.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Drinking Among Young People 

This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage-Projects grant and will
provide support for a full time research project leading to a PhD; the
objective of the research project is to explore the challenges and
potentials of social marketing and health promotion in relation to
alcohol use, harm minimization and young people in Australia; applicants
should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in the humanities or social
sciences and must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or New Zealand citizens; $27,222pa; up to three years.
