NEWS ITEM: Research Funding Information Session - Heart Foundation. The
National Heart Foundation of Australia (NHF) will be conducting an
information session detailing awards currently on offer by the Heart
Foundation in clinical, biomedical or public health research. The
session will be invaluable for all researchers, particularly those
applying for the first time and will provide useful tips on what to do
to maximise your chances of receiving funding. To be held on Monday 26
October 2009 from 12.00pm - 1:00pm, Architecture Lecture Theatre 3,
Wilkinson Building G04, Maze Crescent, Darlington Campus (Near Wentworth
Building). All those wishing to attend need to register on-line with the
Heart Foundation at: www.heartfoundation.org.au/information_sessions

ARC Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals Postgraduate
Scholarship

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for an enthusiastic
candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in microscopy
and microanalysis; the project aims to design and evaluate
micro-structural architectures using state-of-the-art microscopy and
microanalysis techniques; applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A or
equivalent degree in science or engineering and experience in microscopy
and microanalysis is essential; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens; international
students can apply but the scholarship does not cover any tuition fees
payable; $26,669pa; up to three years. 

Closing Date:  16 October 2009

 

JW and ICM Roderick Scholarship

One J.W. and I.C.M. Roderick scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified student with an Honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering
to undertake full time research leading to a PhD degree in the School of
Civil Engineering; the research is in the field of design and
model-based simulation of nanomaterials enhanced glass window system
against blast loading; applicants must have a good degree in engineering
and an interest in computational mechanics; a tuition fee scholarship
will be provided by the School of Civil Engineering for qualified
international students; $22,500pa; up to three years. 

Closing Date: 12 October 2009

 

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on Optimal Management
of Corrosion and Biodegradation of Polymer Coatings in Sour Media

A full-time postgraduate scholarship in materials science is available
for a suitably qualified candidate with an Honour 1 degree Materials
Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD; the project looks at protecting
polymer based permanent coatings for concrete pipes exposed to corrosive
environments in sewer systems; $26,140pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Biogenic and Chemical Corrosion of Inorganic
Sacrificial Coatings in Sour Media

A full-time postgraduate scholarship in materials science is available
for a suitably qualified candidate with an Honour 1 degree Materials
Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD; this project will carry out
fundamental research to identify and establish relationships between the
sewer factors that determine the durability of the various sacrificial
coatings; $26,140pa or up to $39,300pa for applicants awarded an APA or
equivalent scholarship; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bioleaching of Mineral Oxides and Wastes

This scholarship is for a research project leading to a PhD; the project
is designed to carry out comprehensive and in-depth study into
mechanisms involved in the bioleaching of minerals and wastes;
applicants should have an Honours 1 degree in Materials Science,
Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering; international students
can apply however the scholarship does not cover tuition fees payable by
international students; $22,500pa or up to $39,300pa for applicants
awarded an APA or equivalent scholarship; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Selective Metal Recovery from Bioleach
Solutions

This scholarship is for a research project leading to a PhD; the project
designed to carry out comprehensive and in-depth study into the recovery
of metals from bioleach solutions; applicants should have an Honours 1
degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical
Engineering; international students can apply however the scholarship
does not cover tuition fees payable by international students; $22,500pa
or up to $39,300pa for applicants awarded an APA or equivalent
scholarship; up to three years. 

Closing Date:  5 January 2010

 

W. G. Murrell International Postgraduate Scholarship in Microbiology 

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified international candidate with a good honours degree or masters
by research degree in microbiology or a related discipline to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD in microbiology; applicants can be
from any country, but must not be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; a tuition fee scholarship
will be provided by the Faculty of Science; $20,000pa;  up to three
years. 

Closing Date:  31 October 2009
