NEWS ITEM: Research Funding Information Session - Heart Foundation. The
National Heart Foundation of Australia (NHF) will be conducting an
information session detailing awards currently on offer by the Heart
Foundation in clinical, biomedical or public health research. The
session will be invaluable for all researchers, particularly those
applying for the first time and will provide useful tips on what to do
to maximise your chances of receiving funding. To be held on Monday 26
October 2009 from 12.00pm - 1:00pm, Architecture Lecture Theatre 3,
Wilkinson Building G04, Maze Crescent, Darlington Campus (Near Wentworth
Building). All those wishing to attend need to register on-line with the
Heart Foundation at: www.heartfoundation.org.au/information_sessions

 

REMINDER: Visit to the National Institutes of Health in the USA for a
Junior Scientist. The Australian Academy of Science invites expressions
of interest from junior scientists who are no more than 30 years of age
to visit the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States of

The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn Scholarship

The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn scholarship has been
made available by the generosity of five benefactors of the Faculty of
Law; applicants can be  graduates in law of the University of Sydney who
enrol full-time in a higher degree either within the Faculty of Law at
the University of Sydney or at another institution of similar standing,
or to any graduate of any other university who enrols full-time in a
higher degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney;
preference will be given to candidates for a research degree; valued at
the APA rate ($22,500pa in 2010); up to one year.

John O'Brien Memorial Research Scholarship in Criminal Law and
Criminology


This Law Faculty scholarship was established in 2008 by a bequest to
establish a memorial fund in perpetuity named the John O'Brien Memorial
Fund; the purpose of the bequest is to provide scholarships in the
University of Sydney Law School in particular for students in criminal
law; applicant s must be undertaking a higher degree by research in
criminal law or criminology; valued at the APA rate($22,500pa in 2010);
up to 2 years for Masters and 3 years for a PhD or SJP.

Longworth Scholarship


This Law Faculty scholarship was established in 1998 by a generous
bequest of the late Barbara Irene Longworth; one scholarship is being
awarded to assist an exemplary and needy law student to further his or
her career in law; applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree
at the Sydney Law School with preference given to research students;
$12,200pa; up to one year.

Reca Stone Scholarship in Legal Theory


The Reca Stone Scholarship in Legal Theory was established by the
generous bequest of the Wolfensohn Family Foundation; one scholarship is
being offered to assist an exemplary and needy postgraduate research
student working in the field of legal theory to further his or her
research; applicants must be enrolling in a full-time postgraduate
research program at the Sydney Law School; $11,500pa; up to one year. 

Closing Date: 18 November 2009

 

Ross Waite Parsons Scholarship

This Law Faculty scholarship was established 1970 by the Committee for
Postgraduate Studies in the then Department of Law; up to two
scholarships may be awarded based on academic merit and quality of
proposed research program; applicants must be full-time candidates in a
degree program leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of
Juridical Studies, or one of the Research Master's degrees offered by
the Sydney Law School; offered at the APA rate ($22,500 pa in 2010); up
to 2 years.

CSIRO Flagship Postgraduate Scholarships  

National Research Flagships offer full and top-up Flagship Postgraduate
Scholarships to high quality students who are enrolled in a PhD at an
Australian university, and who will be working on a project which is
directly relevant to a Flagship; available to PhD students who have
gained (or expect to gain) an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or
equivalent scholarship; international students are eligible to apply but
must be able to provide evidence of admission to an Australian
university $7,000pa; up to three years. 

Closing Date:  27 November 2009

 

Australian Rotary Health Research Fund - Funding Partner PhD
Scholarships

Applications for two Funding Partner PhD Scholarships are being called
for by the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund; scholarships are
available in Parkinson's disease, spinal injury, bower cancer, youth
suicide, dementia; $25,000pa; up to three years.  

Closing Date:  10 December 2009

 

Australian Rotary Health Research Fund - Research Companion PhD
Scholarships

Applications for two Research Companion PhD Scholarships are being
called for by the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund; available in
children's mental health, and indigenous health; $25,000pa; up to three
years.

Asthma Research Postgraduate Scholarships 2010

The Asthma Foundation NSW seeks applications for PhD Scholarships from
university graduates who wish to engage in research relevant to asthma;
applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent
residents; the research is to be carried out in NSW or ACT and can
involve clinical, psychological or basic medical sciences; valued at the
APA rate ($20,427pa in 2009); initially offered for one year.
