NEWS:

A Fulbright Scholarship information session will be held on Wednesday
14th May 2008, 11am-12 noon, at Carslaw lecture Theatre 250.  Honours,
postgraduate researchers, academic staff, PhD supervisors and
professionals (public/private sectors) are invited to attend. 

 

The Fulbright Program is the largest and one of the most prestigious
educational scholarship programs in the world. The mission of the
Australian-American Fulbright Commission is to promote mutual
understanding through educational and cultural exchange between
Australia and the United States. It does this primarily through the
administration of Fulbright scholarships. Fulbright scholarships for
Australian citizens available in 2009 include the following types of
scholarships: Postgraduate - up to $40,000; Postdoctoral - up to
$30,000; Senior Scholars - up to $30,000; and Professional- up to
$25,000. 

 

2008 Semester 2 VCRS & UPA (Co-funded)

Applications for the 2008 Semester 2 Vice-Chancellor's Research
Scholarships (VCRS) and University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards
(Co-funded) are now open.  These scholarships are available to citizens
of Australia or New Zealand, or Australian permanent residents intending
to commence a full-time postgraduate research course at the University
of Sydney in 2008 Semester 2.  For further information please see

Henry Bertie and Florence Mabel Gritton Research Scholarships (in
Chemistry related to Industry and Agriculture)

To promote the knowledge and study of Chemistry in relation to Industry
and Agriculture, including Chemistry connected with Electrical
Engineering, Metallurgical Chemistry and Chemistry in its application to
the Mining and the winning and treatment of minerals and natural
products of the soil; the value, tenure and benefits of the scholarship
are similar to that of the APA.

 

Richard Claude Mankin Scholarship (in water conservation)

This scholarship is to promote and encourage research at the University
of Sydney related to water conservation; value and tenure of the
scholarship is similar to that of an APA. 

 

G.C. Henderson Research Scholarship (in history of the Polynesian,
Melanesian and Micronesian communities)

This scholarship is to promote and encourage research into the history
of the Polynesian, Melanesian and Micronesian communities; open to
full-time postgraduate research candidates intending to enrol in the
Departments of Anthropology, Archaeology or History at the University of
Sydney; tenure and benefits of the scholarship are similar to that of
the UPA.

 

Heart Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The Heart Foundation offers Postgraduate Research Scholarships in
Biomedical, Clinical and Public Health disciplines for nursing, medical
or science graduates; for full-time research studies leading to a PhD at
an Australian university or institution for research in cardiovascular
disease and related disorders; up to three years; Australian citizens or
Permanent Resident who engage in research in Australia at the time of
application; $22,445pa  to $29,755pa

 

OCE Postgraduate Scholarship 2008- Nano Sensors

Applications open in the research area "Nano Sensors for Detection of
Heavy Metal Ions"; a 3 year postgraduate appointment co-hosted by CSIRO
Materials Science and the School of Chemistry at the University of
Sydney; aims to design and synthesise receptor molecules that are
selective for binding target analytes; requires a high quality Honours
or Research Masters degree in synthetic organic chemistry or similar and
experience in or willingness to learn new characterisation techniques:
full and top-up scholarships are available to doctoral students who gain
or expect to gain an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or equivalent
university award or scholarship in 2008.

 

Other Scholarships:

 

Beryl Henderson Memorial Grant

The Beryl Henderson Foundation and the Australian Federation of
University Women will offer a grant of up to $1250 in 2008 to assist in
completion of a research project being undertaken by a female student or
researcher in an Australian university; the grant is only available for
research focusing on issues related to the rights and welfare of women
and children; selection will be based on merit.
