Postgraduate Scholarship in the Treatment of Diabetes

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a Master of
Medicine Degree in the area of the treatment of Diabetes; the project is
to investigate the clinical course and optimal treatment of steroid
induced diabetes; applicants must be a medical graduate who has already
passed the examination of Basic Physician Training of the Royal
Australasian College of Physicians, and must be Australian citizens or
Australian permanent residents; $25,000pa for one year.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Microfluidics

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate with a Masters degree in Chemistry or Materials
Engineering to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in chemistry;
the project is to investigate the flow of simple liquids at solid
surfaces for microfluidic applications; applicants should have a
particular interest in wettability and interface science; $20,427pa; up
to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship on Grid-Connected Power Electronics System for
Photovoltaic Modules   

There are two scholarships which will provide support on a full-time
basis for a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the
research is to analyze, design and experiment with new high-efficient
and hot-swappable grid-connected power electronics systems for
photovoltaic modules for future practical use; applicants should have an
Honours 1 or 2A degree in electrical engineering or electronic
engineering; local and international students can apply but the
scholarship does not cover any tuition fees payable by international
students; $23,000pa; up to three years; a school top-up scholarship of
$7,000pa is available.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Law: Planning for Pandemic Influenza  

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in
law; the project is to undertake a comparative analysis of a range of
factors pertinent to the framing of optimal legislation to support
pandemic planning in Australia and its regional neighbours; applicants
should have a particular interest or background in an area such as
health law, international law, or human rights; applicants must be
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand
citizens; $20,007 pa; up to three years; additional $840 thesis
allowance and $4,000 conference travel allowance available.

Peter Cullen Scholarship

NSW Government has developed a postgraduate scholarship in honour of the
late Professor Peter Cullen which is jointly funded by various NSW
Government water agencies; the aim of the scholarship is to improve
understanding of how rivers, groundwater, wetlands and estuaries
function and respond to enhanced management, to improve the linkages
between water science and water management in NSW, and to provide
research opportunities for water specialists in NSW; open to first year
PhD students enrolled at an Australian university during 2009 studying
water science or water management; applicants must be Australian
citizens or have Australian permanent residency; $20,000pa; up to three
years.

Overseas Scholarships

 

Churchill Fellowships 2009

A Churchill Fellowship enables Australian citizens to travel overseas to
undertake an analysis, study or investigation of a project or an issue
that cannot be readily undertaken in Australia; any topic of research
will be considered and a strong community benefit must be displayed; up
to $25,000.
