VCRS & UPA (Co-funded) Semester 2, 2007

Applications for the Vice-Chancellor's Research Scholarships (VCRS) and
University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (Co-funded) for Semester 2,

RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS:  Rheological Research, Oral Health, Metallurgy
and Microscopy, Field Robotics, Law, Influenza, Cancer.

 

 

Postgraduate Scholarship in Rheological Research

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good honours degree in science
or engineering to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in the
area of rheological research; the project is to investigate the
rheological behaviour of particulate suspensions under oscillatory and
steady shear flow, using a rotational rheometer and a capillary
rheometer (for high shear rates); $20,000 pa; up to 2 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Oral Health

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good undergraduate degree to
undertake research studies leading to a MPhil or PhD in Oral Health;
projects are varied and interested applicants should contact heads of
research units (http://www.dentistry.usyd.edu.au/research/) to learn
more about research opportunities; $25 000 pa; up to 3 years for a PhD
(2 years for an MPhil).

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Metallurgy and Microscopy

For a research project leading to a PhD at the University of Sydney in
the Australian Key Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis in
collaboration with BlueScope Steel; the project will investigate
microalloying additions known to be highly effective in conventional
steels (Ti, Nb, V, Al, Cu and Mo) with an emphasis on characterisation
of nanoscale microstructure using advanced microscopy techniques;
applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree in materials science and
engineering or mechanical engineering; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $25,627 pa; up
to 3 years.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems (CAS) Scholarships
in Field Robotics


CAS invites students interested in PhD research in the area of
autonomous systems, including perception, control, learning and systems
to apply; applicants should have a first class honours degree in
aeronautical/aerospace engineering, mechanical/mechatronics engineering,
electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or
related discipline or extensive appropriate professional experience;
$25,365 pa.

The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn Scholarship

The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn scholarship is
available upon application to graduates in law of the University of
Sydney who enrol full-time in a higher degree either within the Faculty
of Law at the University of Sydney or at another institution of similar
standing, or to any graduate of any other university who enrols
full-time in a higher degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of
Sydney. Preference will be given to candidates for a research degree.

Postgraduate Scholarships in Influenza Research

An ARC-funded scholarship for PhD research is available to advance
proteomics surveillance of the influenza virus and anti-viral drug
screening; applicants must be Australian citizens and permanent
residents with an H1 or high 2A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant
discipline; the stipend is equivalent to APA level ($19,616 pa in 2007).

Pearl Bethel Allan PhD Scholarship in Cancer Research

The Cancer Council NSW is calling for applications for a PhD scholarship
for a research project on the causes of cancer to commence in 2008; the
successful applicant will enrol in a PhD program at either the
University of Sydney or the University of New South Wales; the Cancer
Council NSW is particularly interested in research on the role of
infectious agents, and on the interface of biomarkers and screening; the
scholarship will be set at the NHMRC scholarship rates appropriate for
either allied health or medical professionals.
