RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Postgraduate Scholarships in Geomechanics

2 scholarships are available for suitably qualified students with an
Hons degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Science to undertake full
time research leading to a PhD degree; the 2 primary objectives of the
project are 1st to conduct experiments to improve understanding of the
process of dynamic compaction and hence improve specification and reduce
the risks associated with this ground improvement technique, and 2nd to
investigate rate effects associated with rapid penetration of objects
into soil leading to the development of a new site investigation tool
for remote locations; $19,616 pa; up to 3 years.

Ian Scott Scholarship - PhD Scholarship in Mental Illness

The Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF) invites applications
from recent graduates looking to build a career in research relevant to
mental illness; $26,000 pa plus incidental support funds; up to 3 years;
only applicants commencing their 1st or 2nd year of a full-time  PhD are
eligible; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of
Australia.

Medicinal Chemistry and Biology - Development of Novel Anti-Tumour
Agents for Cancer Treatment

This project involves the design, synthesis and testing of novel drugs
for the treatment of cancer and requires a student with an interest in
pharmacology and medicinal chemistry; to undertake full time research
leading to a PhD degree; $19,616 pa; up to 3 years.

Allied Health Sciences Scholarships

The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Foundation offers up to 3 scholarships
each year for full-time post-graduate research in one of the allied
health sciences; the award is for up to 2 years at an Australian
tertiary institution with appropriate facilities for postgraduate
research; the Foundation has a preference for applications from
graduates in the disciplines of clinical psychology, nutrition, nursing,
occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology but
applications from graduates of other allied health disciplines pursuing
a PhD in that field will also be considered;  $25,000 pa.

National Breast Cancer Foundation Doctoral Research Scholarships

The purpose of the scholarships is to provide outstanding graduates with
a strong interest in breast cancer research with an opportunity to
pursue full-time PhD studies at an Australian University; the awards are
open to students who are engaged in any discipline of research
specifically relevant to breast cancer, including but not limited to:
behavioural, biomedical, clinical (including allied professions such as
nursing or physiotherapy), epidemiological, health economics, health
services, public health, psychosocial; $31,000 pa; up to 3 years.

Overseas Scholarships

 

The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Scholarship in Law for 2008

2 postgraduate scholarships in law are on offer for tenure at
universities in the UK; the scholarships are for principally for studies
at Oxford, Cambridge, London and Edinburgh universities; the award will
be tenable for either 1, 2 or 3 academic years; candidates must be
Australian citizens; at the time of application, candidates should have
at least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Law, normally from an
Australian university; the scholarship provides a living allowance, and
funding towards tuition fees and airfares.

2007 Young Water Scientist Award

The International Riversymposium in partnership with GHD and the Water
Forum CRCs will present an award to a Young Water Scientist at the 10th
International Riversymposium & Environmental Flows Conference held in
Brisbane, Sept 3 - 6, 2007; postgraduate research students (PhD or
Masters) who are either in the final stages of their projects or who
have submitted their theses since 1 March 2006 on research topics
relating to water are invited to apply.
