Anthony Pierre Balthasar Scholarship for Research in Anaesthesia
For full-time MPhil or PhD applicants interested in pursuing clinical research relevant to ansesthesia; the field of study will be 'Persistence of acute pain following breast surgery'; based in the Department of Anaesthesia & Pain Management, University of Sydney at Royal North Shore Hospital; scholarship is valued at APA rate ($19,616 pa).

PhD Scholarship in Clinical Neurophysiology
For a full-time student leading to the completion of a PhD in clinical neurophysiology through the Central Clinical School; involves experiments on patients with multiple sclerosis; $30,000 pa tenable for one year initially with possibility of renewals; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; must hold an MBBS from an Australian university.

The John Brooke Moore Research Scholarship in Surgery
For a suitably qualified candidate undertaking full-time research into surgery; applicants must be graduates of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sydney; have been accepted into the Master of Surgery (by research) or PhD; be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $40,000 pa tenable for one year initially and may be renewed for one year for a Masters candidate or up to two years for a PhD candidate.

Myee Codrington Scholarship in Microsurgery
For a graduate to undertake full-time studies leading to a Master of Surgery; involves microsurgical training and the investigation of the ability of donor leucocyte subpopulations to prolong organ allograft survival; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; have a medical qualification and basic surgical training as approved by recognized institutions; $35,000 pa tenable for one year initially with possibility of an extension for one year.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Medicinal Organic Chemistry
For a full-time PhD applicant with a good honours degree in Science; the project is to investigate radiolabelled matrix metalloproteinase binding complexes as diagnostic and therapeutic agents in the detection and treatment of metastatic cancer; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; have expertise in synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry; $19,616 pa tenable for up to 3.5 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Psychology - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
For a suitably qualified candidate with a 2.1 or better honours degree in psychology to undertake full-time studies leading to a PhD; the project is to investigate the nature and management of obsessive-compulsive checking; applicants should have some knowledge of abnormal psychology; $20,231 pa for three years with possible renewal for a further six months.

Overseas Scholarships
American Australian Association Education Fellowships
The American Australian Association Education Fund makes annual awards available to Australian fellows to pursue studies in the United States; the fellowships are to be awarded to outstanding Australians doing advanced (graduate and post doctoral) research or study in the US in the following fields: Business, Science, Technology, Medicine and Engineering. Individual fellowships are up to US$25,000.
