Cotton Research and Development Corporation Postgraduate Scholarships

The closing date for applications has been changed to 13 September 2006.

 

St Jude Children's Hospital - Research Seminar for Postdoctoral
Fellowship Opportunities

St Jude's Children's Hospital is a non-profit research institute based
in Memphis USA.  The Seminar will include a short presentation by
Associate Director Carl Jackson PhD, emphasising Postdoctoral
Opportunities followed by an open question and answer session.  All
Faculty and Graduate Students are welcome.

 

When: Friday 29th September 2006, Refreshments will be served from
1.45pm for a 2.00pm start.

Where: Norman Gregg Lecture Theatre, Edward Ford Building (A27),
Camperdown

Research Scholarships

 

PhD Scholarship/Top-up in Neuromuscular disease

A scholarship (or top-up scholarship for an APA/UPA recipient) is
available to provide support on a full-time basis for research leading
to a PhD; the research group studies the interactions among cells at the
neuromuscular synapse that maintain a healthy functional relationship
between nerve and muscle ; $19,231 pa; up to 3 years, or an $8,000 pa
top-up if the candidate is successful in applying for an APA/UPA;
applicants should expect to receive an H1 or 2A degree (or equivalent)
in science, veterinary science, dentistry or pharmacy; applicants must
be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

The Peter Coates Postgraduate Scholarship in Ethnopharmacology

The scholarship is available for a suitable candidate to commence PhD
studies in 2007 in the Faculty of Pharmacy at The University of Sydney
and the Centre for Research and Education on Ageing at Concord Hospital;
the research project will investigate the contribution of ethnic
differences to inter-individual variation in drug response; applicants
should have an H1 or H2A in a health sciences related field such as
pharmacy and medical sciences; $25,000 pa; up to 3 years.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Database Support for
Scientific Algorithms

This scholarship will provide support for a research project leading to
a PhD; the objective of this project is to explore the feasibility of
running scientific algorithms, e.g. from the bioinformatics area, inside
a database and to develop practical optimisation guidelines for the
integration of biodata and virtual machines in today's database engines;
applicants should have an H1 or H2A in Computer Science, IT, or Software
Engineering; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents, or NZ citizens; $25,118 pa; up to 3 years.

The Jack Bloomfield Scholarship

A generous bequest by the late Jack Bloomfield to SPELD-NSW has enabled
the establishment of this 3 year PhD scholarship (to be taken up in
2007) to support full-time doctoral research on dyslexia/specific
learning difficulty; $19,231 pa.

Australian Biological Resources Study PhD Research Scholarship Award

ABRS funds systematics research on Australian flora and fauna and offers
postgraduate awards to outstanding students wishing to pursue higher
degrees within this discipline; applicants must hold  a H1 or H2A degree
(or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline; applicants must be
permanent residents or citizens of Australia; $25,118 pa plus an annual
research support grant of $2,500; up to 3 years.

Other Scholarships

 

Australian Academy of Science Visit to the NIH in the USA for a junior
scientist

Expressions of Interest are invited from junior scientists who are no
more than 30 years of age to visit the National Institutes of Health
(NIH) in the United States of America; proposals in any health-related
field of natural science will be considered; applicants must be citizens
or permanent residents of Australia ; the successful applicant will
receive a contribution towards travel between Australia and the host
institution up to a maximum of $2,600, plus a living allowance of up to
$400; the duration of the visit is expected to be 6 - 13 weeks.

John Carter Brown Library Short-Term Research Fellowships 2007-2008

The John Carter Brown Library Fellowships are available for periods of 2
to 4 months; US$1,800 per month; open to Americans and foreign nationals
who are engaged in pre- or post-doctoral, or independent, research;
graduate students must have passed their preliminary or general
examinations and be at the dissertation-writing stage at the time of
application.
