Henry Bertie and Florence Mabel Gritton Research Scholarships (in
Chemistry related to Industry and Agriculture)

Approximately 7 scholarships are funded each year by a bequest from the
estates of Henry Bertie and his wife Florence Mabel Gritton; the
scholarships is to promote the knowledge and study of Chemistry in
relation to Industry and Agriculture, including Chemistry connected with
Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Chemistry and Chemistry in its
application to the Mining and the winning and treatment of minerals and
natural products of the soil; value, tenure and benefits are similar to
that of the APA.

Richard Claude Mankin Scholarship (in water conservation)

Funded by a bequest comprising the residual estate of Winifred Roby
Mankin to promote and encourage research at The University of Sydney
related to water conservation; value and tenure are similar to that of
the APA.

G.C. Henderson Research Scholarship (in history of the Polynesian,
Melanesian and Micronesian communities)

Funded by a bequest from Professor G.C. Henderson to promote and
encourage research into the history of the Polynesian, Melanesian and
Micronesian communities; open to full-time postgraduate research
candidates intending to enrol in the Department of Anthropology or
History; tenure and benefits are similar to that of the UPA.

John and Betty Casey Research Trust Scholarship

Established by a bequest from the estates of John and Betty Casey; the
object is to research the better development of the Pastoral Industry
and the usage of its products with particular emphasis on the
improvement of sheep, wool and cattle; priority will be given to
research that is of direct benefit to the pastoral industries on the
Monaro; valued at $5,000 above the current APA rate and tenable for up
to 3 years for PhD studies.

DBH Scholarship

Established by a series of donations from Dr Robin J. Helby; in Sem 1,
2007 the DBH Scholarship will be open to candidates who hold a Bachelor
of Science with 1st class Hons or 2nd class Hons div 1 (or equivalent),
and wish to undertake postgraduate research in Geology and Geophysics;
tenure and benefits are similar to that of the APA.

PhD Scholarships in Finance

A full-time PhD scholarship is available for a suitably qualified
candidate with an outstanding 1st class honours degree in finance, to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Finance; applicants must
intend to conduct finance research in the Finance Discipline at USyd;
$25,000 pa; up to 1 year.

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on The Functional
Significance of Motor Laterality in Dogs

For a research project leading to a PhD; the research project aims to
describe the influence of laterality on performance in trainee guide
dogs and police dogs, explore breed differences in laterality in the
domestic dog, estimate heritability of laterality in the domestic dog,
explore the relationship between skull length and laterality in the
domestic dog, investigate the relationship between laterality and
breed-specific behavioural traits and to investigate the extent to which
allelic variation at candidate genes is responsible for differences in
foreleg motor preference in the domestic dog; applicants should have an
Hons 1 or 2A degree in veterinary science; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $25,118 pa; up
to 3 years.

Faculty of Economics and Business International PhD Scholarships

The Faculty of Economics and Business is offering up to 10 International
Research Scholarships to international full-time candidates enrolling in
the Faculty of Economics and Business PhD program in 2007; up to $20,000
pa plus tuition fees; up to 3 years.

CSIRO Livestock Industries PhD Scholarship

2 PhD projects are offered; one will apply detailed assessments of
physiological and behavioural states in sheep in order to better
understand the impacts of nutrition and fatigue, the other will focus on
the understanding and measurement of stress and behaviour in ruminants
as a means of quantifying animal perceptions.

Overseas Scholarships

 

Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships to Harvard University 

These fellowships will enable 3 students from Australia to undertake
postgraduate study at Harvard University in the US academic year 07-08;
applicants must be Australian citizens, normally resident in Australia;
have recently graduated or are about to graduate from an Australian
institution and have spent at least two of the last four years at
university at the time of application; have graduated no earlier than
2005 or will graduate before September 2007.

AgResearch New Zealand

Two PhD projects are offered, one with sheep and the other with beef
cattle.  Each research project will examine the perceptions of animals
of their requirements for food, shelter and rest, using a combination of
physiological and behavioural approaches.  The sheep project will be
conducted primarily in New Zealand, and the beef cattle project in both
New Zealand and Australia.

Other Scholarships

 

Foundation For Rabbit Free Australia: Post-Graduate Research Grant 2007

The Foundation invites grant applications from students in agricultural
science, natural resource management, agricultural economics or social
science who are currently enrolled in approved Masters or Doctorate
degrees with research that relates to the management and control of
feral rabbits or to the species or ecosystems that are affected by feral
rabbits; up to $5000 to support overseas travel for a study tour; OR
attending and presenting research results at a relevant international or
national conference; OR a visit by an eminent overseas scientist,
working on rabbits or in a related field, to Australia to mentor the
student and address Australian and/or regional conferences; OR the
purchase of essential equipment required for the post-graduate,
rabbit-related research and development project.
