Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate Scholarship in Molecular Microbiology

Open to suitably qualified candidates with a BSci(Hons) degree in
Microbiology or equivalent discipline to undertake research studies
leading to a Ph.D; the project will involve analysing antibiotic
resistant Salmonella isolated in Australia using molecular techniques
and thereby trace the origins of strains causing disease in humans;
$19,231 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens or permanent
residents of Australia.

 Nutrition Research Foundation Scholarships

Open to suitably qualified candidates who hold a BSc with H1 or H2(1),
or who hold equivalent qualifications, to undertake full-time research
studies leading to a PhD in human nutrition in the School of Molecular
and Microbial Biosciences; the project is to undertake a clinical
investigation in weight control and management, and epidemiology of
obesity in Asia; $19,231 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be enrolled
for a full-time postgraduate research degree in human nutrition in the
School of MMB at USyd; applicants must consult members of the Human
Nutrition Unit, School of MMB, prior to applying.

Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Brian Gray Scholarship 

4 scholarships valued at $12,500 each are available to be awarded to
final year full-time Hons and PhD students in finance, economics,
actuarial science, econometrics, statistics and related disciplines who
intend to focus full-time on their studies or research; eligible subject
areas include: banking, insurance and superannuation, particularly the
prudential supervision and financial soundness of these industries, as
well as econometrics and statistical studies using APRA's databases.

New Zealand Law Foundation Ethel Benjamin Prize

The scholarship candidate must be female and a holder of a New Zealand
University Law Degree; the scholarship is to support post graduate
research in law that encompasses the wider objectives of the NZ Law
Foundation, in particular research that will protect and promote the
interests of the public in relation to legal matters in NZ; NZ$20,000;
to be used for fees; paid annually for 1 year; open to  NZ citizens or
permanent residents of NZ who intend to pursue postgraduate study in a
country other than NZ.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on 'Minds, Bodies, Machines: a
cultural and intellectual history of technologies in the 21st century'

This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage-Projects grant and will
provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis for a research project
leading to a PhD; the objective of the project is to conduct literary,
historical and philosophical research into technologically-driven social
change across the last 250 years; applicants should have an Hons 1 or 2A
degree in English Literature; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $25,118 p.a.

Other Scholarships

 

Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia University Student Grants
2006

10 grants of $1,000 each are available to Hons or postgraduate students
conducting research that will contribute to the conservation of
Australian wildlife; funds will be provided for purchase of equipment
and consumables, travel expenses related to field research, or
attendance of conferences at which the student is presenting their work.
