Research Scholarships

 

PhD Scholarship in Fungal Pathogenesis

The project aims to identify and investigate the mechanism of action of
novel virulence factor gene products involved in fungal pathogenesis;
applicants must possess at least 2 years previous laboratory experience
and have a proven research ability evidenced by publications and strong
evidence of research potential; valued in line with NHMRC awards and
depends on qualifications and current registration; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Research Scholarships In Bioinorganic Chemistry (2-3
scholarships)

These scholarships are available for studies on the bioinorganic
chemistry of Cr(VI)-induced cancers and the mechanism of action of
chromium dietary supplements and microprobe synchrotron studies into the
intracellular chemistry of anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and other
metal-based drugs; applicants should have a BSc(Hons) degree with at
least a H2(1) Honours in chemistry or a related discipline; $19,231 pa;
up to 3 and a half years for a PhD and 2 years for an MSc.

The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn Scholarship is
available for undertaking a higher degree in the Faculty of Law or at
another institution of similar standing in Australia or overseas;
preference will be given to candidates for a research degree; $19,231 pa
in 06; value is the same as USyd Travelling Scholarship if taken at an
overseas university; for Semester 2, 2006 successful applicants the
scholarship is tenable for 6 months.

The Reca Stone Scholarship in Legal Theory is to assist an exemplary and
needy postgraduate research student working in the field of legal theory
to further his or her research; $5,000 in 06; tenable for 6 months.

The Plant Nutrition Awards

Applications are invited for awards to assist in carrying out a study
tour or to attend a conference or such other activity related to the
stated objectives; applicant's scholastic achievement and recent
contribution to industry, research or technology transfer, and their
potential for future contribution will be considered; up to $2,000;
awards include the Alf Anderson award and the Same Tisdale award;
applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and be
based in Australia, except that for the Sam Tisdale Award, Australian
citizens may sponsor candidates from Asia and the south west Pacific
region.

The International Education Association Inc (ISANA) Bursaries 2006

Offered to students undertaking research at the postgraduate level in a
university in Australia or New Zealand, into areas relating to the
education, support and well-being of international students studying in
these countries; awarded for a refereed paper co-authored by the
student, presented at the 17th ISANA Conference 2006, and deemed to be
most worthy by the selection panel; at least 1 bursary will be valued at
$1,500 and at least 2 other bursaries will be valued at $500 each; all
of the bursaries will be accompanied by a conference registration fee
waiver, to allow the recipients to present their papers and receive
their awards.
