University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS)

The University of Sydney invites international students who are eligible
to undertake a postgraduate research degree at this University to apply
for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS).
Selected USIRS recipients must be able to commence their studies in July
or August 2006.

 

15 USIR Scholarships will be available for July/August 2006.  The
objective of the USIRS is to attract top quality international
postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance
the University's research activities.  The USIRS is open to all research
disciplines.

 

The USIRS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for three years
with a possibility of one semester's extension.  The current stipend
rate is $19,231 per annum.

 

Please apply using the application form available from the website below
(note, Application Processing Fee does not apply for applicants who have
a current offer of admission from the University).  The completed
application form plus two Referee Reports must be forwarded to the
International Office by no later than 28th March 2006.

The University of Sydney Travelling Scholarships

Applications are invited from graduates or graduands of the University
of Sydney who are of not more than four years standing from qualifying
for the first degree appropriate to the proposed course of study
overseas. Scholarships shall normally be awarded to enable scholars to
enrol in an overseas university to undertake studies or research.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Scholarship conditions vary but usually include an annual stipend of
$9,000, up to $6,500 to assist with fees and supplementation of up to
$2,000 to cover the cost of airfares.

Some scholarships are offered for specific disciplines or places of
study, however there are also general awards.

Fulbright Information Session

A Fulbright Information Session, will be held at 10am on Thursday 23
March, in the Chemistry Lecture Theatre 2 in the Chemistry Building
(opposite Eastern Avenue)

 

The Fulbright Scholarship Program is one of the largest and most
prestigious educational scholarship programs in the world.

 

Established by the United States government in 1946, it now exists
between the U.S. and 150 countries. The Australian-American Fulbright
Commission is supported by the Australian and United States governments
and a variety of corporate sponsors.

 

Between 20-25 Fulbright Awards (A$25,000 - A$40,000) are annually
granted to Australian Postgraduates, Senior Scholars, Postdoctoral and
Professionals and a similar number of Postgraduate and Senior Scholar
Awards for Americans to study in Australia.

Postgraduate Scholarships and Scholarship Supplements in Turbulent
Combustion

Open to Hons Graduates in Science or Engineering for postgraduate
scholarships or supplements for current scholarship holders such as APA
leading to MER or PhD in Engineering; projects are aimed at
understanding the flow, mixing and combustion characteristics of
turbulent reacting and non-reacting flows; $23,000 pa; up to 3 years;
for a current scholarship holder, a supplement will be awarded to bring
the scholarship level to $23,000 pa.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Molecular Cell Biology

Open to candidates with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry, Molecular
Biology or a cognate biomolecular discipline to undertake research
studies using molecular pharmacological techniques to elucidate the
mechanisms of operation of class 3 G-protein coupled receptors including
the calcium-sensing receptor which is a multi-metabolic sensor for
diverse nutrients including L-amino acids; $19,000 pa; up to 3 years;
applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Phase Imaging

This scholarship will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis
for research leading to a Masters or PhD; applicants should have a an
Hons 1 or 2A or a Masters in science or engineering; this project will
improve and apply an innovative approach to obtaining phase information
from electron microscopy images; $23,886 pa; additional funds may be
available for outstanding candidates; a top-up scholarship is available
to an applicant who already holds an APA or other scholarship; up to 2
years for Masters or 3 years for a PhD;

John A Lamberton Research Scholarships

These Scholarships are to provide financial support for postgraduate
scholars of exceptional ability who are working toward higher degrees at
the University of Sydney in areas emanating from and inspired by the
work of Dr John A Lamberton or in the area of science aimed at chemical
understanding of brain function and malfunction; depending on available
funding and the number of successful applicants, the scholarships shall
either provide a full stipend valued at or above the APA rate of $19,231
pa or supplementary scholarships.
