The NHMRC have announced two co-funding partners for the current round
of scholarships. The co-funding partners are Retina Australia, and the
Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Retina Australia will be co-funding two
scholarships in the field of Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and other retinal
dystrophies (excluding diabetic retinopathy). The Cerebral Palsy
Foundation will be co-funding one scholarship in cerebral palsy
research.

Closing date:  Applications are due at the Research Office on 14 July
2006

Research Scholarships

 

Short-Term Postgraduate Scholarship in Anatomy & Histology

A short-term, full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a
suitably qualified candidate with a good Hons degree or equivalent in
science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in the changes to
astrocytes and blood vessels in CNS aging; up to 6 mths only from 1 July
2006; $8,000; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of
Australia.

Pharmacy Management Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The scholarship is available for full-time study in a PhD and is open to
Australian citizens and permanent residents with an Hons degree, in
Health Sciences, Business, Marketing or Economics; $19,231 pa; up to 3
years by a full-time PhD candidate.

Leukaemia Foundation PhD Scholarships

Honours year and PhD scholarships are available; for study in a field
relevant to leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or related disorders; the Hons
Year Scholarship is valued at $10,000 ($5,000 stipend and $5,000
consumables); the PhD Scholarships have a total value of $40,000
($25,000 stipend and $15,000 consumables).

The Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation

Applications are invited for Research Scholarships in
Otorhinolaryngology or the related fields of biomedical science to
commence in 2007; individuals who are either medically qualified or
science graduates, and who are or will be enrolled for a higher degree,
are eligible to apply; up to 3 years; tenable in Australian or NZ
institutions; $28,600 pa for medical graduates; $19,231 pa for science
graduates or equivalents in NZ.

RSPCA Australia Scholarships for animal welfare research 2006-2007

This scholarship is available for individual research projects that are
related to the development of humane alternative animal production
systems; $7,000; available to full-time or part-time students;
applications can be made for research involving any livestock animal,
but projects relating to alternative housing and husbandry systems for
pigs and poultry are particularly encouraged.

Overseas Scholarships

 

2007 Fulbright Postgraduate Awards

Fulbright Postgraduate Awards are available to Australian citizens to
engage in 8-12 months of research relevant to an Australian PhD; or
undertake an approved course of study in an American higher degree or
its equivalent; the awards are aimed at current PhD students, honours
students, or honours graduates who are considering postgraduate study in
the US; benefits include a stipend of US$2,000 per month for up to 12
months and a travel entitlement of A$4,200.

International Max Planck Research School for Surface and Interface
Engineering in Advanced Materials PhD Scholarship

Students holding either an excellent Master's degree or diploma in
chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, materials science,
geoscience or related subjects can apply for admission to the school;
the scholarship provides a monthly allowance of approx. EUR 1100 (plus
an additional allowance for accompanying spouses); up to 2 years plus 1
year of possible extension.

2006 Young Tall Poppy Science Awards

The Young Tall Poppy Science Awards recognise the achievements of
outstanding young researchers in the sciences including physical,
biomedical, applied sciences, engineering and technology.  The Awards
acknowledge the recipients' achievements and provide them with an
opportunity to demonstrate their value as role models by promoting and
encouraging an interest in science within the education sector.
