Postgraduate Scholarships in Wound Healing and Complications in Diabetes

2 scholarships are available for Medicine or Science graduates to
complete a PhD or Master of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine's
Central Clinical School; for research into the complications of diabetes
with a particular focus on abnormalities of wound healing; $19,231 pa;
up to 2 years for Masters and up to 3 years with a possible 6 month
extension for PhD.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Health Services Epidemiology

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with an
MPH degree or its equivalent to undertake research studies leading to a
PhD in epidemiology; project is to assess the present state of evidence
on best practice in the primary treatment of cutaneous melanoma; to
evaluate the extent which care in NSW is currently delivered according
to this evidence; and to analyse the factors that determine variation in
care away from best practice; $19,231 pa; up to 3 years.

PhD Scholarships in Design Computing

2 scholarships are available for applicants with an Honours bachelor or
a Masters degree in a relevant discipline to undertake research in
situated design computing; design computing research aims to develop and
test novel computational approaches in the support of design; current
major research program is the area of situated design computing which
draws concepts from design science, computer science and situated
cognition; 1 scholarship is for research in the general area of situated
design computing and the other in the area of situated design
optimisation; $20,000 pa; up to 3 years

Postgraduate Scholarship in Biological Chemistry

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a
good honours degree (or equivalent) in biological chemistry to undertake
research studies leading to a MSc; candidate will study native
redox-active proteins and small molecules produced by Antarctic
organisms in response to cold stress and will involve bacterial
culturing, protein purification (HPLC) and characterisation using a
range of spectroscopic techniques; $19,231 pa; up to 2 years; may be
extended for a further year toward completion of a PhD.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Hepatology

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with an
honours degree in science to undertake research studies leading to a
Masters degree in Medicine; project is to investigate the mechanisms of
action of adiponectin and its receptors in the modulation hepatic
fibrogenesis in obesity related liver diseases using established animal
models of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and nonalcoholic fatty
liver disease (NAFLD) in humans; $19,231 pa; 1 year; may be renewed for
up to 1 additional year.

The University of Sydney - China Scholarship Council Postgraduate
Research Studentship Scheme 2006

The University of Sydney - China Scholarship Council Postgraduate
Research Studentship Scheme was established in 2005 to permit qualified
postgraduate research students from leading Chinese research
universities to carry out doctoral studies at the University of Sydney;
up to 6 new Postgraduate Research Studentships will be offered under
this Scheme in 2006; provides a living allowance, tuition fees, airfare
and health cover.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) Scholarship in Instrumentation
for High Voltage Power Distribution Using Optical Fibre Sensors

A scholarship is available for a full-time PhD research; opportunity to
work with a highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and industry in
the area of optical fibre sensing and signal processing, backed by
optical fibre design, fabrication and characterisation and by
electronics; applicants should have an Honours 1 degree or an Honours 2A
degree with a relevant background in either science or engineering, and
an ability to undertake both experimental and theoretical work; $24,650
pa; up to 3 years with the possibility of an extension for a further 6
months.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Computer-supported Academic Writing

A full time postgraduate scholarship is available for a research project
leading to a PhD in Education; applicant should have a 1st class Honours
or a 2nd class First Division Honours degree or a Masters degree in a
relevant area; aim of the project is to develop and test a
computer-enhanced approach for supporting students and teachers in the
learning and teaching of academic English writing, focussing on two
critical issues, feedback and collaboration; $24,650 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Web Engineering and Text Mining

A full time postgraduate scholarship is available for a research project
leading to a PhD in Engineering; applicant should have a 1st class
Honours or a 2nd class First Division Honours degree; project is to
apply textual data mining techniques to eLearning applications focusing
on the development of new machine learning algorithms, software
architectures and their impact on the engineering of systems that
improve the learning experience of students; $24,650 per annum; up to 3
years.

Implementation of Evidence in Kidney Disease Research Scholarship

A full-time post graduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate with a Masters degree in the Health Sciences, or
equivalent, to undertake research studies leading to a PhD; project is
to investigate the implementation of evidence in the clinical
environment, what methods have been successful, what are the barriers to
the use of evidence and the impact of evidence on patient outcomes;
$28,600 pa; 1 year with the possibility of renewal for a further 1 year.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Agricultural
Microbiology/Biological Chemistry/Plant Morphogenesis

A scholarship is available for a research project leading to a PhD;
project is to investigate the role of P-mobilising microbes in the plant
rhizosphere to promote the growth of crop and pasture plants, in
particular to examine the interaction of plant and microbe genotypes as
factors in the formation of highly effective relationships; applicants
must have an a Honours 1 or 2A degree in a scientific discipline with an
emphasis on agricultural microbiology, biological chemistry or plant
morphogenesis; $25,118 pa; up to 3 years.

ABRS Bursaries for Student Travel Conference Support Awards

Applications are invited from Postgraduate Students for Travel Bursaries
to attend conferences on systematics or taxonomy; offers financial
support to postgraduate students in Australian institutions to travel to
a national or international conference relevant to both the student's
research program in systematics or taxonomy and the Aims and Objectives
of the ABRS; maximum of $1,000 is available for an international
conference and $500 for travel within Australia
