Postgraduate Scholarship in Medical Psychology

This scholarship will provide support for 3 years on a full time basis
for a research project leading to a PhD; project is to explore
predictors of complex grief in partners of deceased women with ovarian
cancer; applicants should have a good honours degree or equivalent in a
related discipline; applicants would ideally have experience in the
conduct of psychosocial research and health services and a background in
psychology; $20,268 pa; applicants must be citizens or permanent
residents ofAustralia.

John York Research Scholarship 

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD; broad aim of the project is
to understand mechanisms of inflammation and joint damage in
inflammatory arthritis, in particular, modulation of bone and cartilage
cells in vitro and in vivo; $23,000 pa; up to 3 years.

PhD Scholarship in Investigating the Cell Biology of Hereditary Sensory
Neuropathy Type 1 (HSN1)

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD; mutations in the enzyme
serum palmitoyltransferase (SPT) long chain subunit 1 (SPTLC1) cause a
hereditary axonal degeneration described as hereditary sensory
neuropathy; this study will elucidate how mutations in SPTLC1, causing
hereditary sensory neuropathy, affect the neuronal cell cytoskeleton;
commencement date will be early 2006; $20,000 pa; up to 3 years.

PhD Scholarship in Bone Metastasis in Prostate Cancer

The Molecular Bone Biology Unit at the ANZAC Research Institute
(www.anzac.edu.au <http://www.anzac.edu.au/> ) has a postgraduate
scholarship available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD; project is for research into bone
metastasis of prostate cancer; applicants should have a first-class
B.Sc. Honours degree in a related subject; $23,000 pa; up to 3 years

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bio-organic Chemistry / Bionanotechnology 

A scholarship is available for suitably qualified candidates with a good
Honours degree or equivalent in science or engineering to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD; the project is to investigate
different ways of controlling the function of redox proteins and
co-factors (e.g., NAD) using light as an input; applicants should have a
particular interest in the interface between (organic) chemistry and
biochemistry and/or motivated to explore the emerging field of
bionanotechnology; $19,231 pa; up to 3 years.

AW Howard Memorial Trust Research Fellowship

Applications are sought from suitably qualified students in agricultural
science, natural resource management, agricultural economics and social
science who are intending to commence or have started approved
post-graduate tertiary studies (Masters or Doctorate degrees) that
relate to the development, management and use of pastures; $5000 "top
up" stipend; up to 3 years; open to Australian post-graduate students
enrolled or intending to enrol at any tertiary institution located in
Australia, or students who have been continuously resident in Australia
for 3 years immediately preceding the closing date of applications.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Medical Education

A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a
medical degree and honours or suitable postgraduate qualifications to
undertake research studies leading to a research degree, either Masters
or PhD, in the field of Medical Education; the project is to investigate
the validity and reliability of learning diaries for the assessment of
generic competencies in trainee pathologists.; $ 19,231 pa; up to 2
years for Masters candidates and up to 3 years for PhD candidates;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or New Zealand citizens.

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on Blended Learning
and Educational Design

This scholarship will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis
for a research project leading to a PhD; the project is to understand
and improve the design capabilities of teachers who are creating
learning situations that mix online and face-to-face activities;
research work will be undertaken in schools, TAFE and universities;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or New Zealand citizens $24,650 pa.

Aboriginal Health Research PhD Scholarships

Several PhD scholarships are available for suitably qualified candidates
with an honours degree in the behavioural sciences to undertake research
studies comprising a PhD on Aboriginal child health; these PhDs will
involve the examination of factors influencing the health of urban
Aboriginal children; topics include housing and resilience.; applicants
must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia; $18,837 pa
negotiable depending on experience.

Dr Bernard Lake Award 2006

The Dr Bernard Lake Award is an annual cash prize for the publication,
in a peer-reviewed journal, of significant original work undertaken in
Australia in one of the following fields: holistic medicine,
complementary medicine, exercise rehabilitation, nutriceuticals,
aromatherapy and multi-disciplinary whole patient approach to medical
problems; $5,000; given for the best paper published in any of the above
fields in the calendar years 2004 and 2005.

Closing Date: 30th April 2006

 

Chrysalis Scholarship Fund

Provides degree-completion funding for women geoscience graduate
students whose education has been interrupted for at least 1 year;
intended to cover thesis/dissertation costs such as typing or drafting
expenses, child-care; applicant must be a student who has contributed
and will continue to contribute to both the geosciences and the larger
world community through her academic and personal strengths.; US$2,000.
