23rd Annual University of Sydney, UTS, RNSH, Kolling Scientific Meeting
7-8 November 2006- Call for Abstracts

Research students, junior doctors, clinicians and researchers are
invited to present their research at this meeting to be held at RNSH,
with $10,000 in prizes available. The meeting will be divided into a
number of informative symposia dealing with the latest advances made in
the fields of medical and basic research at the RNSH, UTS and USYD. The
work of young scientists will be highlighted in a special Young
Investigators symposium. Registration for students is $35. 

 

The closing date for abstracts is September 8th.

Research Scholarships

 

J.W. and I. C. M. Roderick Scholarship

For postgraduate research in Project Management at the School of Civil
Engineering towards a PhD; applicants should have a H1 equivalent degree
in Engineering or Management; $19,231 pa; up to 3 years for Ph.D.
studies; a further faculty scholarship to cover tuition fees will be
provided to the top-ranked international applicant.

APAI Postgraduate Scholarships in Cutting Pick Development for Mining
Industry

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research
project is to develop novel cutting picks for the mining industry;
applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree in the field of machining,
manufacturing, materials engineering/science, solid mechanics, or a
relevant discipline; $25,118 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarships in Mechanics of Materials

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research
project is to develop new methods for the characterisation of
deformation of materials from different length scales; applicants should
have an H1 or 2A degree in the field of materials, solid mechanics,
physics, mathematics, or a relevant discipline; $24,851 pa; up to 3
years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or NZ citizens.

Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund Research Scholarships 2007


Applications are invited from graduates or final year students who are
members of the Forces, children, grandchildren or other lineal
descendants of members of the forces who saw active service for
Australia in WWII; members of the forces who saw active service for
other Commonwealth countries are also considered, provided that they
were resident in Australia within the period of twelve months prior to
enlistment; $4,000 pa; up to 2 years.

Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre - PhD Studentships 2007

Around 12 projects are being offered spanning disciplines as varied as
ecology (freshwater and terrestrial), molecular biology, veterinary
science, economics, sociology, business and mathematical modelling;
these projects offer a choice of locations across Australia, as well as
significant opportunities to work overseas; $25,000 pa; up to 4 years.

Dairy R&D Postgraduate Awards 2007

1) Research degrees to PhD level: available in a wide range of
disciplines, including dairy manufacturing, farm research, industry
analysis and agricultural extension; new graduates are assessed on
academic excellence (min of H2A); experienced graduates are assessed on
professional achievement and academic excellence.

2) Coursework degrees in extension and related disciplines: includes
postgraduate training in extension and related disciplines such as
agribusiness; applicants for this funding should have an established
track record (at least 2-3 years' experience in extension) and be able
to demonstrate an ability to use the additional training for the benefit
of the Australian dairy industry.  

3) Scholarships for Farmers: a limited number of scholarships are
available to farmers wishing to undertake part-time, postgraduate
coursework education; farmers should be able to demonstrate an active
contribution to the dairy industry and community affairs and should
derive at least 80% of their income from dairy-related activities. 

 

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Heart Foundation Vacation Scholarships

The National Heart Foundation of Australia offers Vacation Scholarships
to give undergraduates the opportunity to participate in supervised
Biomedical, Clinical or Public Health research projects which are
broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease, during the
summer vacation at an Australian University or Institution.
