Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and University of Sydney Postgraduate
Award (UPA) 2005

A reminder that applications for APA and UPA will close on 29 October 2004.

2005 Postgraduate Scholarships in Law

The following scholarships are open to outstanding scholars who wish to
pursue postgraduate study in law commencing 2005, preference will be given
to full-time research degree candidates:

1.) The Ross Waite Parsons Scholarship: 2 years for PhD, 1 year for Masters;
APA rate ($18,484 pa in 2004)

2.) The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn Scholarship:  1 year @
APA rate ($18,484 pa in 2004) with the possibility of an extension; $9,000
pa for scholarship taken at another or overseas university + discretionary
grant-in-aid of up to $6,500 + travel allowance of up to $2,000. 

3.) The Longworth Scholarship: 1 year @ $11,000 with the possibility of an
extension. 

4.)  The Reca Stone Scholarship in Legal Theory: 1 year with the possibility
of extension.

Loxton Postgraduate Research Scholarship - Department of Chemical
Engineering

Open to male candidates with at least a 2nd Class, Div. 1 Hons degree in
Science or Engineering undertaking postgraduate studies leading to a PhD in
Chemical Engineering; up to 3.5 years; up to 2 years for Masters; open to
both local and international students, but the latter must make prior
arrangements to cover their fees; $18,484 pa; some supplement may be
available (total package up to $28,000 pa); female candidates should apply
for a similar Departmental Scholarship (see next entry).

Departmental Scholarships - Department of Chemical Engineering

Open to candidates with at least a 2nd Class, Div. 1 Hons degree in Science
or Engineering undertaking postgraduate studies leading to a PhD in Chemical
Engineering; up to 3.5 years; up to 2 years for Masters; open to both local
and international students, but the latter must make prior arrangements to
cover their fees; $18,484 pa; some supplement may be available (total
package up to $28,000 pa).

ICESSM Postgraduate Scholarships in Sports Science and Sports Management

Up to 6 PhD or Masters scholarships offered by the International Centre of
Excellence in Sports Science and Management (ICESSM) in a wide range of
Sports Science and Sports Management research areas; study at The University
of Sydney or The University of Technology, Sydney; applicants should have a
relevant degree; open to Australian and international students; $23,886 pa;
3 years for PhD, 2 yrs for Masters.

RSARF CDKL5 Postgraduate Research Scholarship 

Available for full-time postgraduate research study into Rett Syndrome
leading to a PhD at USYD; applicants should hold, or be expected to obtain,
a 1st Hons degree in molecular biology or genetics; experience in a range of
molecular techniques is essential; $20,100 pa; up to 3 years; applicants
must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

CRC for Innovative Dairy Products PhD Top-up Scholarships in Molecular and
Animal Biosciences 

Available for PhD programs in molecular and animal biosciences; tenable at
USYD, Uni of Melbourne, Monash University or CSIRO; eligible applicants will
have been awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or other
scholarship of similar status to commence in 2005; supplementary funding to
increase the value of a scholarship to $27,000.

Arrow- Hawkesbury Canoe Classic Scholarship

A supplementary scholarship for students commencing an Australian
Postgraduate Award (APA) or comparable competitive postgraduate scholarship
in 2005 in the area of leukaemia and transplantation; supplement from the
APA rate ($18,484 pa in 04) up to an amount equal to the base rate of the
NHMRC Medical Postgraduate Award ($27,489 in 04), no other allowances; up to
the end of the student's 3rd enrolled year, with the possibility of a single
6-month extension. 

Note: This is not an automatic award to all successful APA recipients.
