Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Credit Risk & Credit Derivatives
Open to candidate with a good Hons 1 degree in finance, mathematics, 
statistics, physics or engineering to undertake a full-time research 
project leading to a PhD; the research is to develop mathematically based 
models of credit risk with particular application to portfolio credit 
derivatives; applicants must have proven skills in mathematical modeling, 
with significant industry experience may also be considered; $23,294 pa in 
2003 + a top-up at $5,000 pa, applicants must be Australian citizens, 
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Rowing Simulation
Open to candidate Hons 1 or 2A degree in biomechanics or related discipline 
to undertake a full-time research project leading to a PhD; the research is 
to produce a "specification" of on-water rowing by characterizing the 
magnitude and timing of the forces and moments experienced on-water; 
experience/background in biomechanical testing and/or computer modelling 
would be an advantage; $23, 294 pa in 2003; 3 years; applicants must be 
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Resource Recycling
Open to candidate with a good honours degree in agricultural science, 
science or equivalent to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in 
resource recycling; the project is to investigate the recovery of 
water-absorbing macromolecules in a compost matrix from the processing of 
disposable nappies; applicants should have analytical chemical as well as 
agricultural experience. $24,014 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be 
citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Chemistry (Oil/Water Interfaces)
Open to candidate with a good hons degree in chemistry or chemical 
engineering to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in chemistry; 
the project is to investigate the properties of oil/water interfaces, 
particularly in emulsions, with a wide range of fundamental and industrial 
significance; applicants should have some interest in colloid science or

brain pathology of piglets as a model of human infants who have died from 
the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS); experience/ background in animal

Postgraduate Scholarship in Metabolic Complications in a Model of 
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in Children
Open to candidate with an Hons 1 or 2A degree in Science to undertake a 
full-time research project leading to a PhD, the project is to explore 
metabolic abnormalities, occurring as a consequence of exposure to 
intermittent hypercapnic hypoxia; experience/background in physiological 
studies in animals, or glucose-insulin clamps would be an advantage.

Wildflowers Australia Scholarships
Available for full-time or part-time postgraduate research projects in the 
Proteaceae and other non- Proteaceae genera, such as Chamelaucium,

also be considered; max $5,000 for up to 2 years.

American Australian Association Education Fellowships Program 2004-2005
5 fellowships will be awarded to Australians for advanced research and 
study on a full-time basis (Masters or PhD) in the US for the academic year 
04-05; the project or study must be in the area of business, science, 
technology, medicine or engineering; up to US$25,000 each for 1 year; 
applicants must be Australian citizens.
