Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Breaking the Juvenile Crime 
Cycle: Rehabilitating High Risk Young Offenders
Open to candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD, 
applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree or equivalent in an 
appropriate discipline; experience working in the public health area is 
essential; experience of survey design and implementation and knowledge of 
univariate and multivariate statistical methods would be an advantage; 
excellent oral and written communication skills, an excellent undergraduate 
record of achievement, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary 
team; 3 years @$23,294; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian 
permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Housing and Urban Research
Open to candidate with the equivalent of a good honours degree in any 
discipline relevant to the housing or urban studies field to undertake 
research studies leading to an MPhil or PhD in the appropriate discipline; 
the successful candidate will work on a project which is closely related to 
the AHURI research agenda; $18,009 pa; up to 3.5 years.

National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) Scholarship Program
Open to graduates undertaking innovative research in areas related to the 
application of research knowledge to improve the uptake of evidence into 
clinical practice; applicants should have an honours or masters degree; 
must be eligible to undertake or currently undertaking a PhD or Doctorate 
of Medicine; have demonstrated interest in and the ability to undertake 
research and not be supported by other scholarship; max $30,000 + 
opportunities to attend relevant conferences and workshops; 3 - 4 years; 
applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

The Medical Advances Without Animals (MAWA) Trust Doctoral Research Scholarship
Available for new scientists to advance the development, validation, 
application of non-animal methods in medical research and to pursuit of a 
research program leading to the award of the degree of PhD; $22,500 pa + 
approved expenses up to $2,500 pa; 3 years; not simply for support of 
non-animal research per se; applicants must be Australian citizens of at 
least 5 years standing.

ACIS-Cassamarca Scholarships
The Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS), in conjunction with the 
Cassamarca Foundation, offering scholarships to students at Australasia 
universities who in 2004 will be enrolled, full-time or part-time, in 
honours, research master’s or PhD degrees and who will be engaged in 
research projects in the areas of Italian Studies; valued at $7,500; 
scholarships will not be awarded to attend language courses in Italy.

Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund Research Scholarships 2004
Open to graduates or final year students who are members of the Forces, 
children, grandchildren or other lineal descendants of members of the 
Forces who saw active service for a Commonwealth country in WWII; tenable 
for up to 2 years at universities or other recognized research 
establishments either in Australia or overseas; $4,000 pa.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) UK
Open to Australian citizens who have graduated from a first degree or 
Master’s program after 1 October 1994 and have obtained at least an upper 
second class honours qualification or its equivalent or have the prospect 
of obtaining results at those levels by October 2004; tenable in all 
subjects at any University in the UK from October 2004; Masters or Doctoral 
research; return economy air fares to the UK, approved tuition and other 
compulsory university fees (excluding board and residence), a personal 
maintenance allowance (£608 per month or £730 per month for students living 
in London), and grants for books and apparatus (£407 in the first year and 
£244 for a subsequent full year).
