Postgraduate Scholarships in Molecular and Microbial Biosciences
2 scholarships are available for full-time research project leading to a
PhD: 1) Australian Postgraduate Award Industry (APAI) in Bacterial
Proteomics; 2) Bacterial Proteomics Scholarship; applicants should have an
Honours 1 or 2A degree; current honours students are eligible to apply;
experience in proteomics, microbiology, molecular biology and cell biology
would be an advantage; $23,294 pa each; 3 years; applicants must be
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

The 2004 Clancey Donald Fellowships
Open to recent medical graduates to explore and/or advance career options
freed of routine clinical responsibilities; applicants should intend to
enrol into Master of Medicine or equivalent at the University of Sydney, it
is not 1st year funding of a PhD programme; preference will be given to
applicants who are within five years from graduation; $26,782 per annum; 1
year at Westmead Hospital.

The Jean Denton Memorial Scholarship
Available for advanced or postgraduate studies or research either within or
outside Australia, the purpose or the benefit of which will be applied in
the early childhood area within Australia; 1 year; applicants can be any
person working in Australia.

The Sugar Research and Development Corporation (SRDC) Postgraduate Scholarship
Available in areas of relevance to the sugar industry and the SRDC R&D Plan
2003-2008; for students intending commencing full time study the following
year; applicants should have an Honours degree but this requirement may be
waived if the applicant has comparable qualifications or experience;
$26,000 pa + $6,000 pa operating budge; up to 3 years; applicants must be
permanent residents or citizens of Australia.

Stephen Ward Scholarship
Open to an honours or postgraduate student at a participating tertiary
institution to undertake a research project relevant for local government;
the research must be undertaken and supervised by the institution and a
research report to be provided to Local Government Association of NSW and
Shires Association of NSW; $5,000; the research project must be completed
by mid 2004.

Up to 6 travel grants are available for individuals studying or working in
manufacturing and related disciplines (such as engineering, physics, IT,
biotech, nanotechnology etc) to travel overseas and undertake an
investigative project of benefit to Australian industry; $6,000; applicants
must be citizens or permanent resident of Australia.

The British Chevening Scholarships
Open to outstanding graduates and young professionals with the potential to
rise to senior positions in the public or private sector and be in a
position to help maintain and improve Australian-British understanding;
covers monthly stipend, compulsory academic fees, airfare + other
allowances; 1 year's formal study for a postgraduate qualification or > 3
months for private study or research at a university or similar institution
in Britain; not available to anyone who has benefited in the last 3 years
from other awards funded by the British Government; applicants must be
citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

The Sugar Research and Development Corporation (SRDC) Travel and Learning
Opportunity Projects
Proposals are invited for travel and learning opportunity projects such as
attendance at conferences, study tours, conduct of workshops and seminars,
invited speakers or facilitators for industry functions, or any other
activity intended to build capacity for learning, change or innovation in
sugar industry people; proposals should be under $5,000, may be up to
$10,000 in exceptional circumstances; proposals which include partnership
funding are strongly encouraged.

Maxwell Ralph Jacobs Fund
Available to support projects in forestry science research: a) work to be
carried out in or related to Australasia in any field of forestry science;

and $1500 respectively.
