PhD Research Opportunities at Northern 2003, OPEN DAY - 17 Sept 2002, 3 - 6pm
Exciting research projects in basic and clinical science are now available 
in the Northern Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney, 
with leading research teams from the Kolling Institute and many other 
institutes and centres within the North Sydney Area Health Service.
International research strengths at Northern include:  Cancer - from 
molecular genetics to therapy, Neuroscience and pain management, Cardiology 
and vascular biology, Bone and joint disease, Hypertension and stroke, 
Diabetes and renal disease, Advanced biomedical imaging.
The Northern campus is ideally located with close links to teaching 
hospitals and is home to over 100 postgraduate students. Generous top-ups 
are available for scholarship holders. Come to the Museum Building, Reserve 
Rd, Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards between 3 and 6 pm to hear 
about the great opportunities at Northern and meet students and 
supervisors. Refreshments provided.

RESEARCH
Biological Sciences, CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarships, MAWA Trust Doctoral 
Research Scholarship, Medicine

Postgraduate Scholarship in Biology of Carbon Sequestration funded by 
Cotton CRC
Open to candidate with a good honours degree in science to undertake 
research studies leading to PhD; the project is to investigate the dynamics 
of organic carbon in soil associated with growth of cotton and their 
mycorrhizal fungi; $24,000 p.a.; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens 
or permanent residents of Australia.

CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarships for 2003
Supplementary PhD scholarships for up to 50 full-time research students 
leading to the award of a PhD degree; emphasis on projects focused on the 
strategic priorities of CSIRO divisions; at least $7,000 p.a.; up to 3 
years; at least $4,000 p.a. for travel and operating costs of the project, 
additional $6,000 for attending international conference and visiting 
associated overseas laboratory; applicants must expect to receive 
Australian Postgraduate Awards or equivalent University scholarships 
commencing in 2003 and must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

MAWA Trust Doctoral Research Scholarship
Funds to the successful applicant for a research program leading to a PhD 
degree; $25,000 p.a.; up to 3 years; for research into human health 
disorders using techniques that replace the use of animal tissues as a 
testing medium; applicants must be Australian citizens of at least five 
year's standing.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in CSF Disorder
A PhD or Masters scholarship is available for a medical or science graduate 
in Sydney to do basic or clinical research into aspects relating to the 
physiology, pathology or treatment of CSF disorders, including 
hydrocephalus; applicants must be enrolled for a PhD with the University of 
Sydney or University of NSW in January 2003; valued at $26,188 p.a. (2002); 
allowance at $2,000 p.a.
