Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Breaking the Juvenile Crime 
Cycle: Rehabilitating High Risk Young Offenders
Two scholarships leading to the award of a PhD; applicants should have an 
Honours 1 or 2A degree or equivalent in psychology, or related discipline 
[criminology, epidemiology, adolescent medicine, or adolescent public 
health (mental or physical)]; applicants must have interest and/or 
experience in juvenile delinquency, offending and/or rehabilitation of 
young offenders; 3 years @ $23,294 (in 2003) pa; applicants must be 
Australian citizens or permanent residents who have lived continuously in 
Australia for the past 12 months.

2003 Postgraduate Scholarships in Law
The following scholarships are open to outstanding scholars who wish to 
pursue postgraduate study in law commencing 2003, preference will be given 
to full-time research degree candidates:
1.) The Ross Waite Parsons Scholarship: 2 years for PhD, 1 year for 
Masters; $18,009 pa.
2.) The Cooke, Cooke, Coghlan, Godfrey and Littlejohn Scholarship:  1 year 
@ $18,009 pa with the possibility of an extension; $9,000 pa for 
scholarship taken at another university + discretionary grant-in-aid of up 
to $6,500 + travel allowance of up to $2,000.
3.) The Longworth Scholarship: 1 year @ $10,000 with the possibility of an 
extension.

PhD Scholarship in Synapse Formation
Open to candidate with a good honours degree to undertake research leading 
to PhD in Physiology/Neuroscience; the project will use latest techniques 
such as yeast two-hybrid analysis and mass spectrometry to identify 
proteins involved in organising postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptors at 
neuromuscular synapses; $24,000 pa for up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Studentship - Plant Breeding Institute Cobbitty
Open to candidates with an honours degree or equivalent; the project will 
primarily involve the genetic characterisation of resistance to both leaf 
rust and stem rust in oats, including seedling resistance, adult plant 
resistance, and partial resistance; 3 years @ $22,771 pa; students with an 
interest or background in plant breeding and/ or plant pathology are 
encouraged to apply.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Modelling Emissions from 
Bagasse-Fired Boilers
This project aims to develop sub-models to predict concentrations of the 
major gas phase pollutants emitted from sugar mill boilers and to 
incorporate these sub-models into the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) 
code FURNACE; the APAI holder will enrol as a full-time PhD student and be 
mainly concerned with the development of the code but will also have the 
opportunity to participate in some of the boiler measurement 
trials.  Applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in Engineering or 
Science with specialisation in the thermo-fluids area. 3 years @ $23,294 
(in 2003) pa; applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents 
who have lived continuously in Australia for the past 12 months.

RSPCA Australia White Scholarship 2003
Open to full-time students for original research projects aimed at 
improving the welfare of animals; applicants must demonstrate the 
scholarship is supportive of the policies of RSPCA and will be used to 
further animal welfare, also demonstrate a major commitment to and /or 
involvement with animal welfare issues are strongly favoured; applicants 
must be enrolled in full-time education in an accredited course at an 
Australian University or College in 2003; valued at $2,500.
