Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Improving the Processing of 
Timber from Plantation Forests
Open to candidates with an Honours 1 or 2A degree in materials science and 
engineering or mechanical engineering; will provide support on a full-time 
basis for a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the 
research project is to optimize schedules for drying hardwood timber, 
specifically for high-value end uses, such as flooring and furniture, which 
are described as "appearance" products; applicants must be Australian 
citizens or permanent residents who have lived continuously in Australia 
for the past 12 months; 3 years @ $22,771 (2002 rate)

Cotton CRC and CSIRO PhD Scholarship
Offer to PhD student to undertake a project to identify and link key 
on-farm cotton agronomic and breeding parameters with fibre quality 
measurements and textile performance; suitable for someone with a degree in 
agricultural science/botany/biological science and also some measurement 
and physical science aptitude;3 years @ $24,000 pa + financial support to 
cover expenses such as travel, removal and thesis costs.

Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand (AAANZ) CPA Australia / 
ICAA PhD Scholarships
2 full time scholarships (or 4 part time, or a combination of both) are 
available for research in the fields of accounting, auditing and 
accountability; applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol for a PhD 
course at an Australian University; full-time $15,000 pa, part-time $7,500 
pa; applicants must be members of the AAANZ and must be permanent resident 
or citizen of Australia.

Securities Industry Research Centre of Asia-Pacific Limited (SIRCA) PhD 
Scholarships in Finance, Accounting & Information Systems
Open for full-time PhD studies in the areas of finance, accounting and

Australian Federation of University Women (AFUW)  NSW Inc.- The Tempe Mann 
Scholarship
Open to women who hold a masters or doctorate degree from or who are 
enrolled as masters or doctorate degree student at The University of Sydney 
for this scholarship; awarded to a woman to undertake a short period of 
advanced research or course work in any field, at an overseas university or 
equivalent organization; up to $7,500; qpplicants must be a financial 
member of AFUW-NSW Inc.; be accepted by the overseas university (or 
equivalent organization) at which she proposes to study; establish the 
necessity for overseas study/research; be permanent resident or citizen of 
Australia.

Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) - Bursaries for Student Travel 
Conference Support Award
Open to postgraduate students in Australian institutions to travel to a 
national or international conference relevant to both the student's 
research program in systematics or taxonomy and the Aims and Objectives of 
the ABRS; must be currently enrolled in a PhD or Masters degree (incl. 
research component) in the field of Systematics or Taxonomy; max. of $1000 
for an international conference and $500 for travel within Australia; 
applicants must be citizen or permanent resident of Australia.

American Ornithologists Union Foundation (AOU) Research Awards
The award is for one of the following fields of research: Other 
agricultural, veterinary and environmental sciences, other biological 
sciences or science-general. The award is to be used for miscellaneous 
purposes;  $500 to $2,000; each award has different elegibilty 
requirements; applicants must be a member of the AOU to be considered for 
these awards.
