Mrs B Cameron Memorial Scholarship  Department of Rheumatology
Open to  Science/Medical graduates for a laboratory based PhD scholarship 
at Westmead Hospital, to study the mechanism of action of anti-arthritic 
drugs; previous research experience in cellular immunology, biochemistry or 
peptide chemistry would be an advantage; $17,000 - $25,000 pa according to 
NHMRC scales.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Biological Chemistry
Open to First Class or Second Class Division 1 Honours students for an ARC 
funded Postgraduate Scholarship in biological chemistry; the research 
project involves the design, synthesis and study of the properties of 
antifreeze proteins and glycoproteins. An interest in biochemistry and 
chemistry is required and experience in handling proteins would be regarded 
favourably;  $17,609 pa and may be renewed for up to 3 years, relocation 
expenses max of $5000 are available.

Dr John McGeorge Postgraduate Scholarship in Psychological Medicine
Open to a full-time PhD candidate in Psychological Medicine in the Faculty 
of Medicine; 1 year but may be extended to for up to three years subject to 
satisfactory progress; the stipend and all other conditions are equivalent 
to those applying to University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards.

PhD Scholarships in Screening and Test Evaluation Program (STEP), School of 
Public Health
Several full-time PhD scholarships will be available to work with the team 
developing research in the evaluation of screening and diagnostic tests; up 
to 3 years @ $26,188 pa (2002 rate) for medical graduates and $22,723 pa 
(2002 rate) for non-medical graduates, to be indexed annually.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Electron Microscopy
Open to suitably qualified candidates with a good honours or Masters degree 
in science or engineering to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in 
electron microscopy; this project would suit students who have an interest 
any of the following areas: solid-state physics, nanomaterials, optical 
properties, quantum well systems, advanced instrumentation, microscopy and 
microanalysis and data processing; $22,771 pa and may be renew for up to 3 
years.

Sort-term Postgraduate Scholarship in Electrical Engineering
Open to  candidate with a good BE degree in electrical engineering to 
undertake research studies leading to an MER in Electrical Engineering; the 
project is to design an analogue VLSI implementation of a 2-dimensional 
cochlear model; applicant should have a particular interest in low-power 
analogue VLSI circuits and experience in implementing on-chip analogue 
continuous time filters and experience in testing these; $14,000 from mid 
November 2002 to end of June 2003.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Fungal Biodiversity
Open to a candidate with a good Honours degree or Master's degree to 
undertake research studies leading to a PhD in fungal molecular biology, 
biodiversity and systematics; the project will involve isolation and 
characterisation of biotechnologically important fungal species from 
diverse natural habitats in Australia; applicants should have a good 
knowledge of molecular microbiology techniques, and have an interest in 
mycology; $21,500 pa for up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens or 
permanent residents of Australia.

Neuroscience Institute of Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders Postgraduate 
Scholarship for Schizophrenic Research
Open to prospective research students for schizophrenic research; the 
scholarship will be undertaken at NISAD research centers located at the 
universities and teaching hospital in NSW;  $20,000 pa; applications for 
supplementation for those applying for or awarded other competitive 
scholarships will be considered.
