The Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation Research
Scholarships 2003
Open to candidate who are either medically qualified or science graduates
who are or will be enrolled for a higher university degree; research in
Otorhinolaryngology or related fields of biomedical science; up to 3 years;
tenable in Australian or New Zealand institutions; NH&MRC Medical/Dental
Scholarship rate for medical graduates (currently $26,188 pa) or the Dora
Lush Scholarship rate for science graduates (currently $17,609 pa) or
equivalents in New Zealand; supplementary allowance and travel of up to
$7,500 pa.

Asthma PhD Research Scholarships
Supplementary ("top-up") scholarships providing a sum of up to $10,000 pa;
includes $2,500 p.a. for the student's supervisor to assist with
maintenance costs that are directly related to the student plus conference
and travel assistance. $5,000 for use at holder's discretion; PhD projects
should be related to biological sciences, biochemistry and cell biology,
clinical sciences, medical and health sciences, other medical and health
sciences, pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, public health and
health services; applicants must be citizens of Australia.

National Heart Foundation Postgraduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Scholarships
For research on cardiovascular disease and related disorders in Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people:
1. Cardiac Society of Australia & New Zealand Scholarship
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People applicants are preferred,
although others including Members and Associate and Affiliate Members of
the Cardiac Society may apply.
2. The National Heart Foundation of Australia Scholarship, supported by
Bristol Myers Squibb
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People applicants are preferred,
although others are also encouraged to apply.
For postgraduate students (eg. studying for PhD, MD or MPH) enrolled at an
Australian University or appropriate Institution; tenable for two years
with a third year extension. $19,755 p.a. (for non-medical graduates) and
$26,188 p.a. (for medical graduates) plus departmental allowance of $1,070
p.a; thesis allowance and conference travel on application.

The British Chevening Scholarships
Open to outstanding graduates and young professionals with the potential to
rise to senior positions in the public or private sector and be in a
position to help maintain and improve Australian-British understanding;
either one year's formal study for a postgraduate qualification or for a
short period of not less than three months for private study or research at
a university or similar institution in Britain; priority will be given to
Economics, Management and Business, International Relations, Media, Law,
Environment, Political Science, Science Policy, Human Rights; tuition and
other fees, maintenance allowance and a return economy airfare; candidates
benefited in the last three years from other awards funded by the British
Government not eligible; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents
of Australia.

ANZCCART Student Award
ANZCCART, in conjunction with the 2002 Conference (17-19th October 2002,
Gold Coast, Qld) whose theme is 'Animal Welfare and Animal Ethnics
Committees: Where are the goalposts now?' is offering the award; value at
$1,000, covers travel costs, accommodation, registration and the conference
dinner; students are required to submit an abstract on an animal welfare
theme relevant to the conference and be prepared to give a 10 minute talk
and/or a poster at the conference.
