3-yr postdoctoral position on earthquake triggering and forecasting

Imperial College London, UK

Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the physical and statistical correlations which may exist between induced or triggered seismicity, potential triggering factors and a range of measurable geophysical expressions.

This is an exciting opportunity, as there is a unique dataset available through this project, which will be mined in search of thus far undiscovered correlations and data structures that may provide new insight into earthquake occurrence and hence earthquake forecasting.

This is a fixed term position for 3 years.

Duties and responsibilities

The project will involve compiling and analysing a wide range of seismological, geophysical and geological data to complement the data supplied for the project and setting up appropriate statistical and big-data analyses.

This is a collaborative project between the Departments of Earth Science and Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College.

Essential requirements

To apply you must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Geophysics, Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Experience in statistical analyses of large data sets and a background in earthquake seismology or earthquake mechanics is also required.

You will also be a creative problem-solver who enjoys interdisciplinary work.
