Dear all,

The Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia (PASA) is seeking applications for an Associate Editor position on its Editorial Board.

PASA is a fully refereed, open-access astronomy journal published by Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Astronomical Society of Australia. All papers are indexed by the NASA ADS database; the ISI (two year) impact factor for PASA is currently 4.0 (2025), just below first quartile for this metric. The journal was in the first quartile of international astronomical journals for many years before 2025, and has a current 5 year impact factor of 5.5.

About the Role

Our Associate Editors, based in the astronomical community worldwide, oversee peer review of submitted manuscripts. The role includes:

  *   Assessing manuscripts for quality, impact and compliance with publication ethics policies.
  *   Selecting appropriate reviewers in a timely manner.
  *   Recommending publication/revision/rejection based on reviews.
  *   Upholding high standards of integrity, fairness, and editorial practice.
  *   Contributing to the strategic development and promotion of the journal.

The Editorial Board meets quarterly by teleconference.

The appointment is for a three-year term commencing 1 January 2027, with an annual honorarium of AUD4730.

Desired Expertise

Applications are welcome from all areas of astrophysics. Expertise in pulsars and compact objects, galaxy evolution, cosmology, gravitational waves, theoretical or computational astrophysics, and data science or machine learning in astronomy would be particularly valuable. Members of the Editorial Board are selected based on their standing in the community, the breadth of their knowledge, and their specific areas of expertise.

We strongly encourage applications from individuals from under-represented groups and diverse backgrounds.
