[ASA] ASA Joint Group on Stellar and Planetary Astronomy - call for steering committee members

Dear ASA colleagues,


We are delighted to announce the formation of the ASA Joint Group on Stellar and Planetary Astronomy (SPA), open to all members of the Astronomical Society of Australia (ASA) and the Geological Society of Australia (GSA). SPA membership is open to all ASA or GSA members that are motivated to support and increase collaborative work, either nationally or internationally, in observations, theory, and/or instrumentation-related research in stellar and planetary astronomy, planetary and space science.


We invite:


1) All ASA members to join SPA by ticking the box under “Sign In->Edit Profile->Organisation Details->Group Membership” on the ASA website


2) Nominations for the steering committee are now open. We invite self-nominations for up to 6 committee members, including chair, deputy chair, student and ECR reps. The main role of the committee initially is to help organise the Stars in <city> and the Australian Exoplanet workshops. If interested, please email the returning officer, the ASA Secretary Katrina Sealey (katrina.sealey at mq.edu.au) with one or two sentences giving your reasons for nomination by October 31st, 2025.



3) The 2025 workshop Stars in Newcastle and the 11th Australian Exoplanet Workshop will be held in Newcastle from 17th-21st November. The new steering committee will be inaugurated at this workshop.
