Dear ASA members

Today marks 1,000 days until the Total Solar Eclipse of 22 July 2028, when the Moon’s shadow will sweep across Australia, through the states of WA, NT, QLD, NSW and then directly over greater Sydney. The “Australia Wide Eclipse 2028” will be an excellent opportunity to share the awe of nature’s grandest spectacle and promote our science with the Australian public.

The ASA has developed a dedicated eclipse website https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/xp4pCoV1kpfP6ljGZu1fvupJDog?domain=eclipse.asa.astronomy.org.au<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/xp4pCoV1kpfP6ljGZu1fvupJDog?domain=eclipse.asa.astronomy.org.au>. Members and friends are encouraged to explore the circumstances of the 2028 eclipse and the three other total solar eclipses to occur in Australia in the following 11 years.

The ASA also has a dedicated Eclipse Working Group (https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/CDt5Cp81lrtOpQ1LKtDh0uGMi8R?domain=asa.astronomy.org.au<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/CDt5Cp81lrtOpQ1LKtDh0uGMi8R?domain=asa.astronomy.org.au> and select the EWG tab) working to prepare Australia for the eclipse and to use the event to promote Astronomy, science and STEM. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please make contact with the EWG co-chairs Fred Watson (fred.watson at mq.edu.au<mailto:fred.watson at mq.edu.au>) or Terry Cuttle (terry at cuttle.net.au<mailto:terry at cuttle.net.au>).
