Dear ASA,
Please see the email below from IAU President, Willy Benz, encouraging applications to the annual IAU PhD Prizes<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/TooJCnx1jnimRkDjzu9fwtJCgqi?domain=iau.org>. Each of the nine IAU Divisions has the opportunity to award a PhD prize in the relevant subject area. To be eligible in the current round, candidates must have defended their PhD Thesis between December 16 2024, and December 15th 2025.
I also take this opportunity to highlight that applications for the ASA Charlene Heisler Prize<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/eXDtCoV1kpfvyQYZMUzhltpHG77?domain=asa.astronomy.org.au> for the most outstanding PhD thesis in astronomy (or a closely related field) accepted by an Australian university will open in December, with eligibility being PhD acceptance between the 1st of January and 31st December 2025.
Please consider these opportunities to highlight the excellent research of our community of PhD students on the national and international stage.
Best wishes,
Richard

The IAU PhD Prize
Are you proud of your PhD thesis, or do you know someone whose thesis deserves special recognition? The IAU PhD Prize recognises outstanding scientific achievement in the context of a PhD thesis.
Each IAU Division may award its own prize each year to the candidate who, in its opinion, has produced the most remarkable work and successfully defended a PhD thesis during in the previous year. Work carried out in challenging circumstances may also be eligible for the PhD Prize at-large.
Winners of the PhD Prize will receive an IAU certificate and be invited to present their work remotely or in person during the Division Days at the 2027 IAU General Assembly (GA) in Rome, Italy.
The IAU will cover the GA registration fees for the winners. Winners will also have the opportunity to record a presentation about their work for publication on the IAU website and YouTube channel. The winners will be announced in an IAU press release.
Interested? Check out the detailed requirements at https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/Y013Cr81nyt2BWZoptjtJt4P9qh?domain=iau.org<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/dMdiCvl1rKiAkR8KGu5uptQ6T2H?domain=np5meuhbb.cc.rs6.net> and don't hesitate to submit your application by December 15, 2025.
The IAU looks forward to hearing about your achievements!
Prof. Willy Benz
IAU President
