To those interested to gain practical experience in observing with the VELOCE instrument at the AAT,

The AAT is offering a training session using Veloce on Tuesday the 16th of July 2024. The training will go through the instrument setup and will follow with observations of targets selected by participants.
The training is being provided by the AAT free of charge.
The training will start at 3pm AEST (UTC+10).

The instructor (Chris Tinney) will take the participants through some rules of thumb for target selection, setting up Veloce for a night's observing and taking the appropriate calibration frames before the night. The group will familiarise with the optimised procedure for observing with Veloce at night including focusing the telescope, centring stars, tips about the laser comb, and observation sequence. Observations will go on for ~3 hours or so if weather is good. Targets selected by the participants will be used for the training of acquiring and taking science frames.
The training is planned to be finished by midnight.
