To ASA members:

Request to participate: Astronomers and Spirituality Survey

Please find following a link below to an international survey that is exploring how Australian Astronomers may experience a sense of spiritual or religious connection to their study of the universe. Interestingly, there is a public perception that astronomy is a spiritual undertaking and the researchers are interested to ascertain whether this is the case. They are drawing on the pioneering work of James Leuba and his research on scientists and connections with spirituality and/or religious belief.

The survey link is available here: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/ELFjCq71mwf84EBnMcZEJk-?domain=surveys.usq.edu.au<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/ELFjCq71mwf84EBnMcZEJk-?domain=surveys.usq.edu.au>

Your participation is completely voluntary. If you would like to participate the anonymous survey will take 8 – 10 minutes to complete. There is an option at the end of the survey to nominate whether you would like to participate in an individual interview to further explore how spirituality and/or religious belief, educational background and lived experience have impacted on your choice of Astronomy as a career. This research has received University of Southern Queensland (USQ) ethics approval (H12REA034).

If you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact any of the members of the research team: Associate Professor Martin Kerby – martin.kerby at usq.edu.au<mailto:martin.kerby at usq.edu.au> ; Professor Margaret Baguley – baguley at usq.edu.au<mailto:baguley at usq.edu.au> ; or Professor Peter McIlveen Peter.McIlveen at usq.edu.au<mailto:Peter.McIlveen at usq.edu.au>

Thank you for your consideration – we are very appreciative of your time and support.

Kind regards,
Margaret, Martin and Peter
