Applications are invited for the position of Director's Research Fellow at
the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of
Technology in Melbourne to work in collaboration with the Centre Director,
Professor Jean Brodie. The Director's Research Fellow will be appointed at
a level between A6 and B2, depending on the level of experience of the
appointee. An appointment at level B is equivalent to Lecturer but with no
requirement to teach units in the Centre. The appointment is for a fixed
term of three years.
The Fellow is expected to pursue a vigorous independent research program in
an area closely aligned with the interests of Professor Brodie’s research
group whose chief focus is on galaxy formation and evolution. The origins
and evolution of various types of star clusters, and extragalactic globular
cluster systems, are a part of the group’s core program as are comparisons
of observationally derived constraints with state-of-the-art-simulations of
galaxy formation in a cosmological context. The successful candidate will
have a proven track record in the area of galaxy formation and should be
familiar with photometric and spectroscopic data acquisition and analysis,
including IFU and multi-object observations.
The Director’s Research Fellow may take up to 20% of their time for their
personal research. The Director's Fellow is also expected to assist with
the management of Professor Brodie’s research group. The appointee will
join an active research group in Australia's most rapidly growing astronomy
department. The salary scale is Level A6 tol B2 depending on
qualifications and experience and includes generous superannuation and
leave entitlements.
Applications must include resume, cover letter and response to the Key
Selection Criteria, as listed in the position description. Please apply
online at:
https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/SzwHCp81lrt0z59jIPbj5D?domain=swinjobs.nga.net.au
where a full position description will be found.
Applications are due by 5.00pm on Sunday 15 November 2020 (Melbourne,
Australia time). Applications must also be supported by 3 reference
letters. Please instruct referees to email their references directly to
Professor Brodie by the deadline.
