Faculty of Pharmacy PhD Scholarships 2009

The Faculty of Pharmacy has a number of scholarships available on a
highly competitive basis for local students commencing a full-time PhD
at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Semester 1, 2009; applicants must be
Australian or New Zealand citizens or an Australian permanent resident
by the scholarship closing date; $20,427pa; up to three years. 

Closing Date:  20 February 2009

 

John A Lamberton Research Scholarships

These Scholarships provide financial support for postgraduate scholars
of exceptional ability who are working toward higher degrees at the
University of Sydney in areas emanating from and inspired by the work of
Dr John A Lamberton, or in the area of science aimed at chemical
understanding of brain function and malfunction; the value of the
Scholarships shall be determined by the Scholarship Committee; up to
three years.

Closing Date:  31 March 2009

 

Paracetamol for back pain scholarship

A full-time research project leading to a PhD is being offered with the
objective of conducting a placebo controlled trial of paracetamol for
back pain; applicants should have a Masters degree in physiotherapy, be
eligible for registration as a physiotherapist in NSW and be able to
enrol in a PhD in Semester I, 2009; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens;
$25,000pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Inorganic Polymer Hybrids

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate with a Master degree in Chemistry to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD in Chemistry; the project is to
develop new polymeric materials from natural inorganic and organic
resources; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or New Zealand citizens; $20,427pa; up to one year.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Neuropharmacology  

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to complete research studies leading to a PhD in
Neuropharmacology; the project is to investigate the regulation of
serotonin receptors by natural and synthetic agonists; $35,000pa; up to
one year.

PhD Scholarship in Infectious Disease, Security and Ethics

A full time scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate
with a good honours degree in international relations, biology,
philosophy or public health to undertake research studies leading to a
PhD; the scholarship is to investigate national security and ethical
issues associated with government responses to infectious disease
challenges; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or New Zealand citizens; $20,427pa; an additional $2,500pa for
travel expenses; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Vision Science

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake research leading to an M. Phil
(Medicine); the project is to understand the impact of oxygen on the
function and morphology of vertebrate photoreceptors, using the mouse
and rate as model species; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $25,000pa; up to
two years.

Australian Rotary Health Research Fund - Funding Partner PhD
Scholarships in Parkinson's Disease

Applications for two Funding Partner PhD Scholarships are being called
for by the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund in Parkinson's
Disease; applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian Permanent
Residents and not be under bond to any foreign government; applicants
must be about to commence a PhD, or be in the first or second years of a
PhD at a University or research institute in Australia; $25,000pa; up to
three years. 

Closing Date:  23 February 2009

 

Australian Rotary Health Research Fund - Research Companion PhD
Scholarships

Applications for three Research Companion PhD Scholarships are being
called for by the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund.  The
Scholarships are available in Motor Neuron Disease, mental illness, and
children living in socially disadvantaged and abusive families;
applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian Permanent Residents
and not be under bond to any foreign government; applicants must be
about to commence the first year of a PhD at a University or research
institute in Australia; $25,000pa; up to three years. 

Closing Date:  23 February 2009

 

Australian Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust Post Graduate Studentship
Award 2009

Postgraduate students who already have a scholarship such as
APA/UPA/NHMRC or equivalent are invited to apply for the Post Graduate
Studentship Award for 2009; the award is a top-up scholarship; $5,000pa;
up to three years.

Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia

The Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia will provide ten grants
of $1,000 each to honours or postgraduate students conducting research
that will contribute to the conservation of Australian wildlife; funds
will be provided for purchase of equipment, consumables, travel expenses
related to field research and conference expenses at which the student
is presenting their work; previous recipients of the Initial University
Student Grants will be eligible to apply for a $5,000 Centenary Grant.

Closing Date:  31 May 2009

 

Heart Foundation Travel Grants

The Heart Foundation (HF) offers Travel Grants to researchers working in
the area of cardiovascular disease or related areas; students studying
for their higher degrees can apply; applicants must be Australian
citizens or permanent residents and based in Australia; valued up to
$2,000 pa.
