Research Scholarships

Postgraduate Scholarships in: Immunopathological studies of infectious
diseases; Physiology and pathophysiology of tryptophan metabolism
Two scholarships are offered to students who undertake a higher degree
by research in the broad fields of immunology, pathophysiology and
biochemistry; Project 1: pathogenesis of bacterial meningitis; Project
2: biomedical significance of indoleamine dioxygenase-2; applicants
should have H1 or 2A; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents, or NZ citizens; $26,000 pa; up to 3 years; can also
be awarded as a top-up scholarship to a combined total value of $26,000
pa, if the recipient receives an offer of another scholarship.

Children's Hospital at Westmead Mitochondrial Diseases Research
Scholarship
A scholarship is being offered to a student who undertakes a PhD working
on molecular and functional studies in the mitochondrial respiratory
chain disorders; applicants should have an Honours Class 1 degree from
an Australian university (or equivalent); applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens;
applicants must be commencing a Doctor of Philosophy through the
Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney in Semester 1, 2009;
$25,000pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Multiple Sclerosis
A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably
qualified candidate holding an Bachelor of Medicine degree and currently
undertaking specialty training in Neurology, to undertake research
studies leading to a Master of Medicine (by research); the project will
investigate the association of between fatigue and disruption of
circadian rhythms in multiple sclerosis; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens;
$55,000pa; up to 1 year.

The Medical Foundation/ Bluesand Foundation Scholarship for Alzheimer's
Disease Research
A scholarship leading to a research degree and commencing in semester 1,
2009 is available for a full-time candidate within the Faculty of
Medicine at the University of Sydney; for research in the area of
Alzheimer's Disease; candidates must have completed an Australian
Bachelor degree or equivalent and be Australian citizens or permanent
residents, or New Zealand citizens; $20,000; up to one year.

Dr Paul Brock Stem Cell Scholarship
The Dr Paul Brock Stem Cell Scholarship aims to help build NSW capacity
in the use of iPS cell techniques in stem cell science; researchers in
NSW wishing to undertake a PhD in stem cell research are encouraged to
apply; $25,000pa; up to three years.
