NEWS:

 

University of Sydney Travelling Scholarships

The University of Sydney Travelling Scholarships are currently open for applications.  These scholarships are open to graduates or graduands of the University of Sydney who are of not more than four years standing from qualifying for the first degree appropriate to the proposed course of study overseas. 

 

Scholarships shall normally be awarded to enable scholars to undertake studies or research overseas. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. Scholarship conditions vary but usually include an annual stipend of $20,000 and supplementation up to $2,000 to cover the cost of airfares.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Chemistry

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons degree in science (preferably chemistry) to undertake research in the area of fibre optics leading to the award of a PhD or Masters of Science in Chemistry; the project is to investigate the properties of porphyrins within optical fibres; $20,007 pa; up to 1 year.

Three Postgraduate Scholarships in Geomechanics

For suitably qualified students with an Hons degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Science to undertake research leading to a PhD degree; the first project deals with the mechanics of dynamic loading and rapid penetration of soils; the second project investigates the potential geosequestration of carbon dioxide into coal in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere; $20,007 pa; up to 3 years.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on biotech applications and structural studies of fungal hydrophobin proteins

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research project is to undertake biophysical, structural and functional studies on fungal hydrophobin proteins with the aim of developing hydrophobin‑based products for biotech, pharmaceutical and industrial applications; applicants should have an H1 degree in biochemistry, protein chemistry, molecular biology or biotechnology; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $25,627 pa; up to 3 years.

PhD Scholarship in Transport Externalities

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons or masters degree to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in transport studies; the PhD will be in the broad area of transport externalities, with a focus of the development of mathematical models to understand the relationship between a range of policy instruments such as emission and congestion charging on the economic efficiency of multimodel transport networks in urban contexts; $26,000 pa; up to 3 years; applicants for the scholarship should have, or expect to obtain, a good hons (at least H2A) or masters level degree.

Australian Rotary Health Research Funding Partner PhD Scholarships

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia and not be under bond of any foreign government; $25,000 pa; up to 3 years; the available scholarships are: PhD Scholarship investigating Bowel Cancer; PhD Scholarship investigating Multiple Sclerosis; PhD Scholarship investigating Brain Tumours; PhD Scholarship investigating Kidney Disease; PhD Scholarship investigating Rehabilitation of Spinal Injury

Other Scholarships

 

2008 Alzheimer’s Australia Research Dementia Grants Program - Rosemary Foundation Travel Stipend Grant

Valued up to $5,000; the aim of the grant is to provide financial support to enable an Australian researcher to attend and present at a conference on an aspect of their research related to dementia, dementia care or carer support; applicants must be junior researchers either enrolled in a PhD or Masters program or within 1 year of completing a PhD; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
