Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) in Ultra Sensitive Photonic Hydrophones

The objective of the project is to explore new DFB fibre laser configurations for eventual implementation as acoustic sensor heads in distributed fibre arrays; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; should have an honours 1 or 2A in Physical Chemistry, Physics or Photonics Engineering; $25,627 pa for up to 3 years.

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre PhD Scholarships

Up to 2 scholarships are available for research in Oncology in either: "determinants of prognosis and treatment decisions in advanced colorectal and breast cancer"; or "patients' and Doctors' preferences for chemotherapy in lung and gynaecologic cancer and how to incorporate these preferences into clinical practice"; $29,753 pa per year for three years; possibility of top-up to current scholarship holders.

Scholarship in Connections in high strength cold-formed rectangular hollow sections

For a suitably qualified student with an Honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering; the aim of the project is to determine design rules for the static strength of RHS truss connections in high strength (450 MPa) cold-formed steel; $26.000 pa; up to three years; international students can apply but the scholarship does not cover any tuition fees but a separate tuition fee scholarship may be provided from the School of Civil Engineering.

Cancer Institute NSW Research Scholar Awards

These awards aim to provide additional funding for the scholar's research to ensure the project is supported at a level that will allow significant progress; applicants will have secured, or will be seeking, a scholarship from NHMRC or their University or another source and have the potential to develop highly significant careers in cancer research; $25,000 pa (only $5,000 will be paid as top-up); up to three years to commence January 2009.
