NEWS:  

 

ARC/NHMRC Research Network in Ageing Well - 2008 Emerging Researchers in
Ageing Masterclass

The ARC/NHMRC Research Network in Ageing Well is pleased to announce
that applications are now open for the 2008 Emerging Researchers in
Ageing Masterclass. The Masterclass will be held at the University of
Queensland St Lucia Campus on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th March, 2008,
and confirmed PhD students whose research is in the field of ageing are
invited to apply.

 

The two-day program will include sessions with leading academics in the
field of ageing from Australia and overseas. Sessions will focus on
practical and methodological considerations for PhD students conducting
research into ageing, as well as career development options and
pathways, how to fund your research, how to promote your research in the
media and how to publish your research in the ageing literature. There
will be no attendance fee for successful applicants, and those who live
more than 100 kms from the University of Queensland will be provided
with bursaries to cover the cost of flights (where applicable) and

PhD Scholarship in Hydrology and Salinity Management

The project is part of a larger surface and groundwater modeling effort
in the Cox's Creek catchment involving researchers from NSW DNR, UTS,
the University of Sydney and UNSW; this part of the project will develop
estimates of recharge below different land uses in the catchment, using
modeling and GIS; applicants have to be Australian citizens or permanent
residents; applicants should possess an Hons degree from a BLWSc,
BScAgr, BSc or BEng degree; $26,000 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Clinical Tests Evaluation

For a suitably qualified candidate with a degree in medicine to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD in clinical test evaluation;
the project is to investigate study designs for test evaluation;
applicants should have already completed training in biostatistics, and
have demonstrated research experience in the evaluation of diagnostic
and prognostic tests; $35,000 pa; up to 3 years.

FEVER Study Postgraduate Scholarship

For a suitably qualified candidate with postgraduate qualifications in
paediatrics (FRACP or equivalent) and a Masters degree (or equivalent)
eg. MPH to undertake research studies comprising a PhD as part of the
FEVER (Febrile EValuation of children in the Emergency Room) study; this
project aims to determine whether a computer decision support system
improves the outcomes of children presenting to an Emergency Department
with a febrile illness and is NHMRC funded; $32,003 pa.

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on Enhancing the
Production of Functional Food Powders 

For a research project leading to a PhD; this is a collaborative project
between Lang Technologies and the University of Sydney; this project
will address the overall themes of assessing, measuring, modelling and
minimizing the extent of thermal degradation during the processing of
functional foods in spray dryers; applicants should have an H1 or 2A
degree in physical sciences or chemical, civil or mechanical engineering
and must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ
citizens; $26,140 pa; up to 3 years.

Australian Postgraduate Research Award (Industry) on Optimizing Cyclic
Drying Processes in Solar Kilns

For a research project leading to a PhD; this is a collaborative project
between Choice Timber and the University of Sydney to improve the
productivity and quality of timber drying by cyclic drying techniques,
particularly in solar kilns; applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree
in physical sciences or chemical, civil or mechanical engineering and
must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ
citizens; $26,140 pa; up to 3 years.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems (CAS) Scholarships
in Field Robotics


CAS invites students interested in postgraduate research in the area of
autonomous systems, including perception, control, learning and systems
to apply for a CAS Scholarship; applicants should have a H1 degree in
aeronautical/aerospace engineering, mechanical/mechatronics engineering,
electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or
related discipline or extensive appropriate professional experience;
$25,872 pa.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) - Rethinking Timelines Project

This PhD scholarship offers an opportunity to work in a stimulating
cross-disciplinary research environment spanning History, Archaeology,
Education, Psychology and Digital Methods, collaborating closely with a
multi-disciplinary team of researchers in the Centre for Digital
Innovation, with CDI technical developers, industry partners in Sydney
(Macquarie Library P/L and the Australian National Maritime Museum) and
internationally with the University of California Merced; the
scholarship can be in either: APAI (History). Historical event modelling
and visualisation or APAI (Education). Visualisation and participatory
approaches to communicating history in museums and the classroom;
applicants must be Australian/NZ citizens or Australian permanent
residents and hold an H1 or 2A degree or Masters degree in a relevant
field; $25,627 pa; up to 3 years.

Other Scholarships

 

AFUW-NSW Tempe Mann Travelling Scholarship

For women who hold a research masters or doctoral degree from or who are
enrolled as a research masters or doctoral degree student at The
University of Sydney; the Scholarship is awarded to a woman to undertake
a short period of advanced research or course work in any field, at an
overseas university or equivalent organization; $7,500; the scholarship
is to be taken up in 2008 or early 2009 for a period to be agreed by the
Trustees; applicants must be an Australian citizen or an Australian
permanent resident.

Closing Date:  31 March 2008
