Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate scholarship on Neuropathology in the Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome (SIDS) and in piglet models

For a research project leading to a PhD; the project involves two parts:
1- Exploring for protein abnormalities in the brainstem of SIDS infants
compared to non-SIDS infants, & 2-Investigating the effects of the main
SIDS risk factors (nicotine and prone sleeping) in young developing
piglets; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or NZ citizens, and should have an H1 or 2A degree in Science
or a related field;$19,616 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Aeronautical Engineering

For a research project leading to a MER or a PhD; the objective of the
research project is to develop concepts, methods and technologies for
achieving desired shape morphing of flexible smart structures using
selected smart materials based actuators and sensors; applicants should
have an H1 or 2A degree in aeronautical engineering or a closely-related
engineering field; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or NZ citizens; $19,616 pa.

PhD scholarship in Molecular Nutrition

For a research project leading to a PhD; researching the mechanism of
action of amino acids on extracellular calcium-sensing receptors;
applicants should have an H1 degree in biochemistry/molecular biology;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or NZ  citizens; $20,000 pa, up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Polycystic Kidney Disease

For a suitably qualified candidate with a H1 or 2A degree in Science or
a Medical Graduate with relevant experience in research, to undertake
studies leading to a PhD in Medicine; the research project will
investigate the role of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors on the
prevention of kidney failure due to Polycystic Kidney Disease; valued at
the same rate as an APA or higher, depending upon the applicant academic
performance and standing; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens or
permanent residents of Australia.

PhD Scholarship in Hydrology, Spatial Integration and Probabilistic
Modeling

For a PhD in the area of Hydrology, spatial integration and
probabilistic modeling; the project: "Spatial recharge estimates for the
Cox's Creek Catchment using stochastic modeling" is part of a larger
surface and groundwater modeling effort in the Cox's Creek catchment
involving researchers from NSW DNR, UTS, the University of Sydney and
UNSW; applicants must be Australian citizens; applicants should have an
Hons degree from a BLWSc, BScAgr, BSc or BEng degree; $26,000 pa; up to
3 years.

John A Lamberton Research Scholarships

These Scholarships provide financial support for postgraduate scholars
of exceptional ability who are working toward higher degrees at the
University of Sydney in areas emanating from and inspired by the work of
Dr John A Lamberton or in the area of science aimed at chemical
understanding of brain function and malfunction; available as a full
stipend valued at or above the APA rate of $19, 616 or as supplementary
scholarships.

Fiona Stanley Scholarship for Collaborative Research in Child and Youth
Health

1 scholarship is available from semester 1, 2007 for a suitably
qualified candidate to undertake multi- and trans-disciplinary
collaborative research in Child and Youth Health leading to the award of
a PhD from one of the faculties in the Health at Sydney group; $19,616 pa;
applicants must be citizens of Australia or NZ or permanent residents of
Australia.

PhD Scholarship Investigating Causes/Prevention of Youth Suicide

An Australian Rotary Health Research Fund PhD Scholarship is available
in the area of Youth Suicide; the research should focus on the causes
and prevention of Mental Illness, in particular depression and youth
suicide; $25,000 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be eligible to
undertake a PhD programme, or be in the first or second years of a PhD
programme at a University or research institute in NSW.

OCE Postgraduate Scholarship 2007 - Single-Molecule Conduction

A CSIRO PhD scholarship is available in the research area
"Single-Molecule Conduction", the project supports the development of
novel, molecular-scale building blocks for information processing and
for single-molecule sensors.  full and top-up scholarships are available
to doctoral students who gain or expect to gain an APA or equivalent
university award or scholarship in 2007.

Overseas Scholarships

 

The Rio Tinto Chevening Scholarships

2 scholarships are available to lawyers working in or interested in
working in Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs) or Native Title
Service Delivery Agencies (NTSDAs); successful candidates will undertake
a one-year Master of Laws (LLM) in Mineral Law and Policy at the Centre
for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the
University of Dundee; open to any Australian resident with a law degree;
approximately $55,000 pa including relocation costs, tuition fees,
living allowance for 12 months, and airfare to and from Scotland;
successful candidates must commit to work within an NTRB or NTSDA for a
minimum period of two years upon their return.
