Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate Scholarship in School of Geosciences

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons degree or equivalent
in geography, cultural studies, veterinary studies or similar to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD in geography; the project is
to investigate the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia and parts
of North America, with a particular focus on the perceptions and use of
nature in this activity; $19,616 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Cardiac Pathology

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons degree in medical
science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in cardiac
pathology; the project is to investigate the molecular structural basis
of familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and requires experience in DNA
mutagenesis, protein expression and purification, optical spectroscopic
techniques and in vitro motility assays; $19,616 pa; up to 1 year;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Molecular Hepatology

For a suitably qualified candidate with a Masters or good hons degree in
the biosciences to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in the
Faculty of Medicine; the project will provide novel insights into the
functioning of proteins involved in liver disease and their potential as
therapeutic targets in chronic liver disease; $19,616 pa; up to 3 years;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarships in Optical Fibre Science and Engineering

The OFTC research areas cover many aspects of science and engineering,
including the fabrication of optical fibres, modelling and design, and
applications including high powered lasers, ultra-high speed data
communication, atom optics and biosensing; the OFTC is seeking highly
motivated PhD candidates with excellent academic records to work or
related areas, and has established a number of scholarships for both
local and international students; these include a tax-exempt "top-up"
scholarship of up to $10,000 pa to students with their own funding (eg.
an APA), or "full" scholarships equivalent to an APA; for international
students a tuition fees scholarship may be available.

Start-up Masters Scholarship in Opthalmology & Opthalmic Sciences


For a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading
to a Master of Science on Mechanism of Retinal Vascular Formation:
Relevance to Retinopathy of Prematurity; $5,000 pa; up to 1 year with
the possibility of extension; applicants must be citizens or permanent
residents of Australia.

Start-up PhD Scholarship in Opthalmology & Opthalmic Sciences


For a suitably qualified candidate with an hons degree or equivalent in
science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD on astrocyte
heterogeneity in central nervous system; $8,000 pa; up to 1 year with
the possibility of extension; applicants must be citizens or permanent
residents of Australia.

Other Scholarships

 

2007 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture,
Fisheries and Forestry

If you are aged between 18 and 35 years and employed or studying in an
agricultural, fisheries, forestry, food or natural resource management
related industry and you want to use science, technology and innovation
to advance the future of that industry, then you may be eligible to
apply.  Up to $10,000 is available for each award winner to carry out an
innovative project that will benefit rural industries.

AFUW-ACT Inc Bursary

The Australian Federation of University Women - ACT Incorporated offers
free board and lodging for up to four weeks at a residential college in
the Australian National University, Canberra to a woman graduate or
final year honours student from a university or tertiary institution in
Australia, New Zealand, Papua-New Guinea or South Pacific countries.

Beryl Henderson Memorial Grant

The Beryl Henderson Foundation and the Australian Federation of
University Women will in 2007 offer a grant of up to $1,250 to assist in
completion of a research project being undertaken by a female student or
researcher in an Australian university; applications are invited from
women who are enrolled in postgraduate programs in Australian tertiary
institutions or embarked on research work with publication in Australia
in view.
