2007 Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)/University of Sydney
Postgraduate Awards (UPA) 

Applications for the 2007 APA/UPA will close on 31 October 2006.

RESEARCH:  Influenza, Science, Leukaemia & Transplantation, Social
Research and Dementia, Asthma, Neuromuscular disease.

 

 

Postgraduate Scholarships in Influenza Research

2 scholarships and 2 top-up scholarships for PhD research are available
to advance proteomics surveillance of the influenza virus and anti-viral
drug screening; applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent
residents; candidates should hold a H1 or high 2A degree (or
equivalent); 1 stipend equivalent to the APAI rate and 1 stipend
equivalent to the APA rate; top-up scholarships are $5,000 pa for
recipients of APA/UPA scholarships.

ANSTO-University of Sydney Postgraduate Scholarships - 2007

6 research scholarships are available for outstanding candidates for
full-time studies leading to a PhD; applicants can choose from a list of
interesting projects in a number of disciplines or from three specified
projects; valued at the APAI rate; up to 3 years; a relocation allowance
of up to $5,000 is also available; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Arrow-Hawkesbury Canoe Classic Scholarship

The Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation is offering supplementary
scholarships for students commencing an APA or comparable competitive
postgraduate scholarship; these biomedical research scholarships will be
in the area of leukaemia and transplantation; the scholarships will
supplement postgraduate awards commencing in 2007 from the APA rate up
to an amount equal to the base rate of the NHMRC Medical Postgraduate
Award; the supplement will be payable until the end of the student's 3rd
enrolled year, with the possibility of a single 6-month extension;
applicants must have submitted an application for an APA or comparable
scholarship award from a similar competitive scheme.

2006 AAR/CRC Joint Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Social Research
and Dementia

Offered in partnership between Alzheimer's Australia Research Limited
(AAR) and the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre - Consumers and
Social Research (DCRC - CSR), established by the Australian Government
as part of its Dementia National Health Priority Initiative; to support
a PhD student undertaking research in an area relevant to social
research and dementia; $25,000 pa; up to 3 years.

Asthma Research Scholarships

Applications are invited from researchers in biomedical and medical
science seeking to undertake full-time research for higher degrees; up
to 1 year; applications for further funding will need to be made on an
annual basis; open to graduates who are Australian citizens or who have
permanent residential status.

PhD Scholarship/Top-up in Neuromuscular disease

A postgraduate scholarship (or top-up scholarship for an APA/UPA
recipient) is available to provide support on a full-time basis for
research leading to a PhD; the research group studies the interactions
among cells at the neuromuscular synapse that maintain a healthy
functional relationship between nerve and muscle; $19,231 pa; up to 3
years; may be converted to an $8,000 pa top-up scholarship if the
candidate is successful in applying for an APA/UPA scholarship;
applicants should expect to receive an H1 or 2A degree (or equivalent)
in science, veterinary science, dentistry or pharmacy; applicants must
be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand
citizens.
