Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Modelling Biomolecular Signalling Pathways in Colorectal Cancer Cells 

A position is available for a highly motivated student to undertake research studies leading to a PhD at The University of Sydney in the Australian Key Centre for Microscopy & Microanalysis; the project endeavours to elucidaHte further the complex and dynamic machinery of membrane transport and signalling mechanisms which have been shown to be a key event in colorectal tumour cell survival and further metastatic outgrowth; applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree or equivalent in disciplines such as biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, medicine, pharmacy, molecular biology or other related disciplines in the life sciences; $24,851 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Agricultural Microbiology/Plant-Microbe Interactions

This scholarship will provide full-time support for a research project leading to a PhD; the project is to investigate the role of plant growth promoting microbes as endophytes or in the plant rhizosphere to promote the growth of rice and wheat and increase grain yields; applicants must have an H1 or 2A degree in a scientific discipline with an emphasis on agricultural microbiology, biological chemistry or biotechnology; $23,000 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens of Australia or NZ or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Vision Research

Available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in vision research; the topic is the construction and testing of a mathematical model of primary visual cortex; applicants should have a good hons degree in one of the health sciences, science, or engineering, or an equivalent qualification; $20,000 pa; for 1 year only.

Douglas and Lola Douglas Scholarship on Child/Adolescent Health

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a good honours degree in a relevant field to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in child/adolescent health; $19,616 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Dietary Phospholipids and Atherosclerosis

This scholarship will provide support on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research project is to explore the ability of phospholipids derived from buttermilk to protect against the development of coronary artery atherosclerosis; applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree in biochemistry, molecular biology and/or nutrition; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $25,118 pa; up to 3 years.

Other Scholarships

 

Australian Bicentennial Scholarships

Applicants must be registered as a postgraduate student at an Australian tertiary institution, or be eligible for such registration at a UK tertiary institution, be usually resident in Australia, and have at least an upper second class hons degree; applicants may be in any discipline but must demonstrate that there are special scholarly or practical advantages to be gained from a period of study in the UK and that an appropriate host institution is available; up to £4,000.
