Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Biochemistry/Molecular Microbiology - Porphyrin Accumulation by Porphyyromonas gingivalis

A PhD scholarship is available for research commencing in 2006 in developing anti-microbials for the treatment of periodontitis; applicants should have an Hons 1 degree or an Honours 2A degree in biochemistry/molecular biology/microbiology; $24,650; 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Pharmacology

Open to candidate with a 1st or 2A Hons degree in science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in cellular and molecular biology; the project is to investigate the role of the protein frataxin in the metabolism of iron in the mitochondrion. @APA rate or higher; 3 years; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Ménière's Research Fund Scholarship

Open to candidate enrolled at USYD through the Faculty of Medicine who is interested in establishing a career in Ménière's Disease research; the research will be mainly undertaken in the USA; AU$28,000 pa, AU$35,000 for the period of study in the US; applicants must have a good Hons degree in an appropriate field such as physiology or neuroscience, preference will be given to the candidate with an Hons 1 degree.

NICTA Postgraduate Schoalrships

A range of scholarships are available for postgraduate research within the Schools of Information Technologies (SIT) and Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) at USYD:

NICTA Research Project Award (NRPA) - supplement students in receipt of a primary Government, University or NICTA funded scholarship; $8,500 per annum.

NICTA Local Postgraduate Award (NLPA) - available to local PhD students; up to 3 years; @APA rate.

NICTA International Postgraduate Award (NIPA) - available to international PhD students; up to 3 years; $10,000 pa; may also provide international tuition fees.

NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust - Doctoral Scholarship 

Open to candidate to undertake a full-time research leading to a Doctoral degree in road safety at USYD; $30,000 pa + thesis allowance, conference/field allowance and relocation allowance; 3 years. applicants must have an Hons 1 degree, a masters degree or equivalent qualifications and be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens.

The Felix Arnott Scholarship

Open to candidates enrolled full-time in a Masters degree by research or in a PhD at USYD; it covers all usual College residential expenses for 52 weeks of the year at St Paul's College, a weekly allowance of $50.00, valued at approximately $20,000 in 2005 + reasonable research expenses; 1 year but may be extended annually by the Council.
