The University of Sydney Travelling Scholarships

Applications are invited from graduates or graduands of the University
of Sydney who are of not more than four years standing from qualifying
for the first degree appropriate to the proposed course of study
overseas. Scholarships shall normally be awarded to enable scholars to
enrol in an overseas university to undertake studies or research.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Scholarship conditions vary but usually include an annual stipend of
$9,000, up to $6,500 to assist with fees and supplementation of up to
$2,000 to cover the cost of airfares.

Some scholarships are offered for specific disciplines or places of
study, however there are also general awards.

Please note: Postgraduate research students intending to undertake short
research projects overseas as part of their candidature at the
University of Sydney will not be considered for Travelling Scholarships
and should apply for a Grant-in-Aid (applications open in May).

John A Lamberton Research Scholarships 

These Scholarships are to provide financial support for postgraduate
scholars in areas from and inspired by the work of Dr John A Lamberton
(chemistry of many classes of natural products, especially alkaloids) or
in the area of science aimed at chemical understanding of brain function
and malfunction; top-up scholarships for one year and valued at a
minimum of $5,000 will be offered.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Dermatology 

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available to undertake research
studies leading to an M.Med in dermatology; the project is to
investigate the effects of different topical and oral compounds on
ultraviolet radiation-induced suppression of human skin immune
responses; $26,000 per annum (tax exempt); may be renewed for up to 2
years; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia
and have a MBBS qualification.

Haemophilia Foundation Australia Research Grants

Applications are invited for medical, scientific or social research
relating to haemophilia, von Willebrand disorder and related coagulation
disorders, and/or medically acquired blood borne viruses; an amount of
$50,000 will be allocated; applicants must be Australian residents, hold
appropriate qualifications, and have substantial experience and proven
ability in research.

The Plant Nutrition Awards

These awards are to assist applicants in carrying out a study tour or to
attend a conference or such other activity related to the stated
objectives; the amount of each award will depend on circumstances but is
likely to be under $2,000.

 

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and be
based in Australia, except that for the Sam Tisdale Award, Australian
citizens may sponsor candidates from Asia and the south west Pacific
region.
