Postgraduate Awards in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

Available for a full-time research project leading to a MSC or PhD in the
School of Physics; 

Research in the area of theoretical computational condensed matter physics
and will involve application of electronic-structure approaches to predict
the atomic, electronic, magnetic, and chemical properties of poly-atomic
systems; applicants should have a good Honours degree, or equivalent, in
Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science/Engineering; $18,484 pa; 3 yrs

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Soil Inference System

Available for a full-time research project leading to a PhD ; the project is
to address the confronting issues of degradation and long-term
sustainability of the Australian environment; applicants should have Hons 1
or 2A degree in soil science and  must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or NZ citizens; $23,886pa; 3 years;

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Quantitative Atom Probe
Tomography for Nanostructural Analysis of Materials 

Two scholarships are available a full-time research project leading to a PhD
; the project involves the development of reconstruction and analysis
methodologies for more accurately determining relative atomic positions in
atom probe tomography;  applicants should have Hons 1 or 2A degree (or
equivalent) in an appropriate discipline including materials science,
materials engineering, physics or mechanical engineering; must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens; $23,886pa; 3 years

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Children Walk Well

Available for a full-time research project leading to a PhD in the School of
Behavioural and Community Health Sciences; the project is to examine the
factors contributing to consumer decision-making about footwear choice,
consumer knowledge about the impact of footwear on children’s activity and
development, and to assess patterns of footwear usage among Australian
children aged 4 to 12 years ; applicants should have Hons 1 or 2A degree in
an appropriate field of study and must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or NZ citizens; $23,886pa; 3 years

Postgraduate Scholarship in Physical Chemistry

Available for a full-time research project leading to a PhD in experimental
physical chemistry; the project is to investigate the origin of spectral
features that have been observed in the interstellar medium, leading to
possible identification of the molecular origin of these features;
applicants must have a  good honours degree in science or engineering;
experience with lasers and vacuum technology is essential; must be citizens
or permanent residents of Australia ; $18,484 pa; 3 years

CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarships for 2005 

Up to 60 supplementary scholarships for students undertake research leading
to PhD; $7,000 pa, up to 3 years; higher stipends may be offered in specific
areas; at least $4,000 pa for necessary travel and operating costs of the
applicants must have or expected to gain in 2004, Hons I or equivalent in a
relevant area; must expect to receive APA or equivalent University
scholarships commencing in 2005 and must be Australian citizens or permanent
residents.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) Postgraduate Scholarships

Open to Australian citizens or permanent residents for postgraduate study in
2005; for research and training in areas of practical value to the
Australian beef, sheep meat and goat meat industries.

MLA Studentships: postgraduate Diploma or Masters courses, up to 2 years,
tenable in Australia or overseas, $20,000 pa with a technical assistance
grant of $2000 pa -$4000 pa 

MLA Junior Research Fellowships:  postgraduate degree at PhD or equivalent
level; up to 3 years; usually tenable in Australia; $25,000 pa with a
technical assistance grant of $6000 pa -$8000 pa 

MLA Study Awards: “sabbatical” type overseas training for established
professional, up to 1 year; US $15,000.

Near Eastern Archaeology Foundation (NEAF) Grants-in-Aid 2005

Open to recent graduates of an Australian or New Zealand University,
currently enrolled in postgraduate studies, to pursue research in the
archaeology of Egypt, Cyprus or Western Asia, up to $6500 available for
awards

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) UK 

Open to Australian citizens who have graduated from a first degree or
Master’s program after 1 October 1995 and have obtained at least an upper
second class honours qualification or its equivalent or have the prospect of
obtaining results at those levels by October 2005; tenable in all subjects
at any University in the UK from October 2005; Masters or Doctoral research;
return economy air fares to the UK, approved tuition and other compulsory
university fees (excluding board and residence), a personal maintenance
allowance (£668 per month or £828 per month for students living in London),

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) Malaysia

Two scholarships are available for Australian students to pursue
post-graduate courses in Malaysian Universities in 2005/2006; applicants
must have a minimum upper second class honours; preference will be given to
applicants whose field of study matches opportunities in Malaysian
universities and the development priorities of the nominating country.

The Catherine Southwell-Keely Travel Grant for 2005

Open to a recent graduate of an Australian or New Zealand University,
currently enrolled in postgraduate studies, requiring extensive travel to
pursue research in the archaeology of Egypt, Cyprus or Western Asia; $3,500

The Leone Crawford Travel Grant for 2005

To enable the recipient to undertake overseas archaeological site research
in the geographical areas in which the Near Eastern Archaeology Foundation
conducts research; up to $5000

Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS)-Cassamarca Scholarships

Three awards are available to Australasians wishing to undertake studies in
Italy in 2005; applicants must be students at Australasian universities who,
in 2005, are enrolled, full-time or part-time, in honours, research masters
or PhD degrees; must be studying the following areas of Italian Studies:
language, literature, culture, history, politics and society, including
migration studies; applicants have a knowledge of Italian adequate for their
research purposes; up to $5000 each award.

Australian Foundation for Studies in Italy (AFSI) Scholarships 

Two awards are available to Australasian postgraduate and postdoctoral
scholars to undertake studies in Italy in 2005 ; applicants must be studying
Italian history, culture and society, or archaeology and classical
antiquities, practitioners in the humanities and arts wanting to pursue
creative work in Italy, and have a knowledge of Italian adequate for their
research purposes; up to $5000 each award.

Singapore Millennium Foundation (SMF) Scholarships 2005

Masters, PhD and Post-Doctoral studies scholarships are available to young
aspiring researchers all nationalities who intend to pursue a research
career in: Business & Economics; Education & Learning; Environmental
Science, Renewable Resources & Water; Engineering; Information Technology;
Physical & Materials Science; Life Sciences; applicants must have an
excellent academic track record;  scholarships tenable in the National
University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University or Research
Institutes in Singapore;  S$2000 per month for up to 2 years for Masters,
S$3000 per month for up to 3 years for PhDs, S$5000 per month for up to 2
years for Postdoctoral candidates.
