University of Sydney Postgraduate Award (UPA) Co-funded - Semester 2, 2004
Open to applicants with, or expect to hold by the end Semester 1, 2004, a 
1st Class Hons degree or equivalent who wish to commence a full-time 
Masters by Research or PhD degree at the University of Sydney in semester 
2, 2004 ;$18,484 pa in 2004; 2 years for Masters and 3 years for PhD; 
applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or have been 
granted permanent resident status in Australia by 15 June 2004.

Henry Bertie and Florence Mabel Gritton Research Scholarships – in 
Chemistry related to Industry and Agriculture
Open to graduands or graduates of universities who are members of the 
Association of Commonwealth Universities, graduands or graduates of any 
country who are citizens of a Commonwealth country or permanent residents 
of Australia; for Semester 2, 04; same rate as APA ($18,484 pa in 2004).

Richard Claude Mankin Scholarship – in Water Conservation
Open to candidates enrolling in a higher degree by research and is intended 
to promote and encourage research at USYD related to water conservation; 2 
categories for Semester 2, 04: Postgraduate Scholarship –same rate as APA 
($18,484 pa in 2004), Supplementary Scholarship – value to be determined by 
the selection committee.

G C Henderson Research Scholarship
Open to full-time postgraduate research candidates intending to enrol in 
the Departments of Anthropology, Archaeology or History at USYD; to promote 
and encourage research into the history of the Polynesian, Melanesian and 
Micronesian communities; same rate as APA ($18,484 pa in 2004).

DBH Scholarship
Open to candidates who are German nationals and wish to commence a 
full-time postgraduate research degree in any Faculty at USYD; $18,484 pa 
in 2004; international students can also apply but the scholarship does not 
cover any tuition fees payable by international students.

Loxton Postgraduate Research Scholarship - Department of Chemical Engineering
Open to both local and international MALE candidate with at least an Hons 
2.1 degree in Science or Engineering for undertaking postgraduate studies 
leading to a PhD in Chemical Engineering; the international students must 
have made prior arrangements to cover their fees; up to 3 years with 6 
month extension; 2 years for Masters of Engineering (Research); 18,484 pa; 
some form of scholarship supplementation is often available; overall 
package possible up to A$28,000 pa.

Departmental Scholarships - Department of Chemical Engineering
Open to both local and international candidate with at least an Hons 2.1 
degree in Science or Engineering for undertaking postgraduate studies 
leading to a PhD in Chemical Engineering; the international students must

NHMRC Scholarships – Open to Australian citizens or Australian permanent 
residents who are currently residing in Australia (NZ citizens do not need 
to be residents in Australian at the time of application); candidates must 
enrol for a full-time research degree; all NHMRC Scholarships are for one 
year but renewable to three years subject to satisfactory progress; $18,484 
pa (standard), $23,853 pa (for nursing or allied health professionals) or 
$27,489 pa (medical/dental graduates who are registered to practise within 
Australia).  6 types of scholarships are now open for applications:

1.  NHMRC Biomedical (Dora Lush) Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to graduates with a science or health related Hons degree (or 
equivalent), unregistered medical or dental graduates from overseas; 
students enrolled in a graduate medical program combined with a PhD, and 
Allied Health Professionals with an Hons degree or equivalent.

2.  NHMRC Medical/Dental Postgraduate Research Scholarship
Open to medical or dental graduates registered to practice within 
Australia, or medical or dental graduates from overseas who are registered 
to practice in Australia.

3.  NHMRC Public Health Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to graduates in an area applicable in public health research at time 
of submission of the application, or graduates in area applicable to public 
health who are from overseas.

4.  NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships for Primary Health Care Research
Open to medical or dental graduates currently registered to practice within 
Australia, or who have already completed a health related degree (or 
equivalent) at the time of submission; or health related graduates from 
overseas.

5.  NHMRC Pharmacy Guild Postgraduate Scholarships
Up to 5 Australian-based scholarships in the area of pharmacy practice are 
available; the successful applicant will have a commitment to, and a track 
record in pharmacy, or related, health services research, and will not 
accept any research funds, consultancies or sponsorship from the tobacco 
industry or person connected with the tobacco industry.

6.  NHMRC Training Scholarships for Indigenous Health Research
Open to Australian citizens or permanent residents enrolling in a diploma, 
certificate, undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a fully accredited 
institution; for research training or training leading to research in areas 
of particular relevance to indigenous Australians.

Australian Rotary Health Research Foundation Ian Scott Fellowship - PhD 
Scholarship
Open to recent graduates to undertake a full-time PhD in the area of 
research relevant to mental illness; between 3-5 offered each year; $26,000 
pa + incidental support funds for a max of 3 years.

Endeavour Australia-Europe Scholarships
Available for citizens from European Union Member States to participate in 
an ad hoc programme in Australia whilst remaining currently enrolled in 
their own country or to obtain an Australian postgraduate degree at either 
Masters or PhD level; up to A$50,000 (A$3,333/month for up to 12 months, 
travel allowance of A$5,000 and establishment allowance of A$5,000); 1 year 
only.
