Postgraduate Scholarship in Statistical Mechanics
A full-time PhD scholarship is available in statistical mechanics; the
project involves molecular simulations of nonequilibrium systems; the
applicant should have a good honours degree in physics, chemistry, or
applied mathematics, and an interest in condensed matter theory,
mathematical modelling, and computer programming; $18,009 pa; up to 3
years; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Kolling Institute of Medical Research PhD Top-up Scholarships
A limited number of top-up scholarships are available to prospective PhD
students of high academic merit who will apply for Australian Postgraduate
Awards (APA) or equivalent PhD scholarships; the projects are in the area
of cancer cell and molecular biology, cancer genetics, renal medicine,
perinatal medicine, neurogenetics and pain management research; only
available to supplement externally awarded scholarships; approx. $8,000;
prospective students are invited to discuss possible projects to commence
in 2004; closing date for expre ssions of interest on 22 October 2003.

Osteoporosis Australia Research Fund Research Awards 2004
Open to young medical and science graduates to undertake thesis studies
into osteoporosis and related disorders at recognised universities and
institutions; $20,000 pa; 1 year only, may renewed for a further 1 or 2
years; successful applicants will be notified on 5 December 2003.

CPA Australia / ICAA PhD Scholarships
Open to candidates undertaking PhD studies in accounting, auditing or
related disciplines and who are committed to pursuing an academic career in
Australia; applicants intend to enrol or who have enrolled as part-time PhD
will also be considered; full-time $15,000 pa, part-time $7,500 pa;
applicants must be members of the Accounting Association of Australia and
New Zealand Ltd (AAANZ) and must be permanent resident or citizen of Australia.

Women in Freight, Logistics and Marine Scholarship
Available for a female full-time or part-time student commencing or
completing a PhD, Masters or other postgraduate degree in the Freight,
Logistics or Marine-related fields in 2004; 1 year full-time or 2 years
part-time @ $10,000; the funds must be used toward academic expenses; may
have the opportunity to work part-time at Dept of Infrastructure during the
year, subject to study constraints.

Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) Scholarship and Studentship
Program 2004
Open to motivated students who wish to pursue academic studies in wool or
wool science and have an interest in the Australian wool industry: PhD and
Masters scholarship - $28,000pa, max 3 years in the case of a PhD, 1.5 year
for a Masters degree; PhD 'top up' scholarship for candidates who have
received another scholarship (eg: APA, ARC); $10,000 p.a; Studentships -
AWI will place those students with one of its many research partners to be
involved in a relevant AWI funded project; $2,000 on completion of the
placement, 2 to 3 weeks duration.

CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarships for 2004
Up to 60 supplementary PhD scholarships are available for students
undertake research leading to PhD; $7,000 pa, up to 3 years; higher
stipends may be offered in specific areas; at least $4,000 pa for necessary
travel and operating costs of the project + an additional $6,000 to support
attendance at on international conference and associated overseas
laboratory visits during the 3-year program; applicants must have or
expected to gain in 2003, 1st class honours or equivalent in a relevant
area; must expect to receive Australian Postgraduate Awards or equivalent
University scholarships commencing in 2004 and must be Australian citizens
or permanent residents.

National Archives of Australia Summer Scholarships
Open to undergraduate students in year 3 and 4, students enrolled in an
honours degree, a graduate diploma, and 1st year Masters or PhD students
whose studies include a major in 20th century Australian history, politics,
social studies, or similar subject; tenable at the National Archives
Canberra Office; cover travel costs, accommodation (room and board), $300
pw; 6 weeks (5 January to 13 February 2004); successful candidates will
undertake research projects on a topic set by the Archives using the
Archives' collection, submit a report and present a seminar to Archives'
staff at the end of their scholarship; students must be Australian
residents studying in Australia

Future Connections Essay Competition
An expenses paid, 2-week trip to the UK is offered for the author of a
winning essay titled: "What kind of relationship do you think Australia and
the UK need in the 21st Century?" Applicants must be aged between 19 and 30
and should submit an essay of 1500-1800 words; 1st prize is an expenses
paid 2-week trip to the UK, with the winning essay published in The
Australian plus an annual subscription to The Australian; 2nd prize is an
economy airfare to the UK plus an annual subscription to The Australian; 3
consolation prizes of annual subscriptions to The Australian will also be
offered.
