The University of Sydney Travelling Scholarships
Applications are invited from graduates or graduands of the University of 
Sydney who are of not more than four years standing from qualifying for the 
first degree appropriate to the proposed course of study overseas. 
Scholarships shall normally be awarded to enable scholars to undertake 
studies or research overseas. Applicants must be Australian citizens or 
permanent residents. Scholarship conditions vary but usually include an 
annual stipend of $9,000, up to $6,500 to assist with fees, and 
supplementation of up to $2,000 to cover the cost of airfares.

Please note: Postgraduate research students intending to undertake short 
research projects overseas as part of their candidature at the University 
of Sydney will not be considered for Travelling Scholarships and should 
apply for a Grant-in-Aid (applications open in April).

Postgraduate Medical Scholarship in Liver Disease
Available for full time postgraduate clinical research in liver disease 
leading to a Master of Medicine or PhD; applicants must have a medical 
degree, and should have training in clinical gastroenterology/hepatology; 
applicants will be expected to commence their studies in the first quarter 
of 2003; $26,782 for 12 months with a possibility of renewal for a further 
3 years; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Superabrasive Cutting Tool 
Technology
Open to candidates to undertake a full-time research project leading to a 
PhD; applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in the field of 
machining, manufacturing, materials engineering/science, solid mechanics, 
or a relevant discipline; 3 years @ $23,294 pa; applicants must be 
Australian citizens or permanent residents who have lived continuously in 
Australia for the past 12 months.

PhD scholarships in Low Back Pain
2 scholarships are available to support full-time PhD candidature; 
applicants must be eligible for admission to a PhD program, currently 
registered or immediately registerable to practice as a physiotherapist or 
medical practitioner in NSW; possess excellent communication and 
interpersonal skills and have a driver's licence and own vehicle; 
experience in the clinical management of low back pain and research 
experience related to the aims of the study are desirable; $26,782 pa; up 
to 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents 
who have lived continuously in Australia for the past 12 months.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Cardiovascular Neuroscience
Open to candidates with a good honours degree to assist in continuing 
studies as a PhD candidate for 1 year;  $18,009 pa; applicants must be 
citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

R J Chambers PhD Scholarship in Accounting
The R J Chambers Scholarship was established in 1990 to promote doctoral 
research within the Discipline of Accounting and Business Law at the 
University of Sydney; only students who are currently enrolled in a PhD in 
the Discipline of Accounting and Business Law are eligible for the 
scholarship; the scholarship is intended to assist PhD candidates to 
complete their dissertation as quickly as possible; one year @ $15,000.

Italian Government Scholarships 2003/2004
Open to graduate or postgraduate research or attendance of Italian language 
courses in Italy for the academic year 2003/2004; applicants must be 
Australian citizens or Italian citizens residing in Australia; age limit of 
38 years before 18 March 2003 (does not apply to teachers of Italian); age 
limit of 27 years for studying at the National Cinema School; each 
scholarship consists of monthly instalment in Euros, health insurance 
premiums and reductions on course fees; lodging and travel allowances are 
not covered.
